Most viral marketing stops when a movie hits the theater, but it appears that ‘Prometheus’ is just getting started. If you were one of the many who contributed to the movie’s $50 million opening weekend and you stayed after the credits, you saw a link to the website WhatIs101112.com. When you head there, you’ll see a giant book that has the words “What is great in man is that he is a bridge not an end,” from Friedrich Nietzsche‘s ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’, along with this description from Wikipedia about the book:

‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’: A Book for All and None is a philosophical novel by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, composed in four parts between 1883 and 1885. Much of the work deals with ideas such as the “eternal recurrence of the same”, the parable on the “death of God”, and the “prophecy” of the Übermensch, which were first introduced in ‘The Gay Science’.

Under that blurb is a video of Peter Weyland, Guy Pearce’s character from the movie, as he prepares to deliver that awesome TED Talk from a few months back. He seems to be psyching himself up by repeating the phrase “I am a law only for my kind, I am no law for all.” Here’s the video for you to check out for yourself:

/Film and Total Film, with the help of some other sites, have started speculating on what all of it means, however, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, I don’t recommend looking at their explanations. My guess is that 10.11.12 refers to the date of the DVD and Blu-Ray release for ‘Prometheus’, but then again Ridley Scott may have something else up his sleeve still that we’re not expecting at all.
