Dark Phoenix and X-Men Day

All eyes may be on the ‘Avengers’ right now, and while ‘Endgame’ is on its way to possibly becoming the #1 film of all time, they don’t have their own day.  That honor belongs to the team that kicked off the modern superhero movie landscape, the ‘X-Men’.  In a post unveiling a new comic book-style poster for the upcoming film ‘Dark Phoenix’, Walt Disney Studios declared that this coming Monday, May 13, was “X-Men Day” and that the studio would be releasing a slew of “exclusive content, special events, and fun surprises.”

 

So that gives you the weekend to check out ‘Endgame’ in theaters again, before settling in on Monday for all the tea about the final 20th Century Fox X-Men team movie.  Just months ago, there was some concern that ‘Dark Phoenix’ wouldn’t even be released following Disney’s buyout of Fox.

There was no credit given to the artist of the new poster, but it’s really lovely!  So kudos to whoever rendered it!  Not only does it give the poster a comic book look, but it also calls to mind classic painted posters from the past like those for the original ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Indiana Jones’ movies.

DARK PHOENIX- The X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

‘Dark Phoenix’ marks the directorial debut of longtime ‘X-Men’ writer Simon Kinberg, and stars Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Evan Peters, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Sophie Turner.

The movie hits theaters on June 7.
