M. Night Shyamalan is back with his signature creepiness, weirdness, and twists and turns. And that’s just in the trailer! Shyamalan’s latest project is the Apple TV+ series ‘Servant’ about a married couple that hires a mysterious live-in nanny to take care of their baby, but as the trailer reveals that goes sideways fast! While Shyamalan is the biggest name attached to the project, he actually only serves as executive producer, and directed the pilot. ‘Servant’ was actually created by writer Tony Basgallop (’24: Legacy’, ‘Outcast’).
The cast includes Lauren Ambrose and Toby Kebbell as the married couple, Dorothy and Sean Turner, Nell Tiger Free as their new nanny, Leanne Grayson, and Rupert Grint as Julian Pearce, who is Dorothy’s brother.
Watch the creepy and weird trailer for ‘Servant’ below:
Now that you’ve watched the trailer, you see that the biggest plot twist is that the couple’s baby, Jericho, is dead and that Dorothy insists on coddling a doll in his place and even going so far as to hire a full-time nanny. Below you can find a synopsis for the show (via TV Line):
‘Servant’ is described as a half-hour psychological thriller about a Philadelphia couple that is in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a “mysterious force” to enter their home.
Knowing Shyamalan’s work, there’s no way that the biggest surprise would be revealed in the trailer, so that has to mean that there are even bigger twists coming on the actual show. There is obviously more to the cryptic Leanne than what is teased in the trailer.
One thing that is particularly interesting is the fact that this is not a miniseries, but a regular, ongoing program. So this isn’t a finite story that will be wrapped up at the end. This is something that could potentially stretch for years. Is there enough story to justify that? We’ll have to wait and see.
There are ten episodes in the first season, with vague titles like:
- “Reborn”
- “Wood”
- “Bear”
- “Cricket”
- “Rain”
- “Haggis”
- “Boba”
- “Jericho”
- “Balloon”
- “Eel”
The first three episodes will be released on Apple TV+ on November 28, with additional episodes premiering each Thursday after that.
