Since ‘The Mandalorian’ ended, there hasn’t been much offered by Disney+ to appeal to adult viewers. Many are wondering when the next ‘Star Wars’ series will arrive, especially now that we’ve learned that ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ has been delayed. Thanks to a report by Variety, it is now known that ‘Cassian Andor’ will arrive in 2021.
Unfortunately, that is quite a ways off. There is hope that ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 will arrive this year, seeing as how it is already in production. There were also rumors that a fourth, secret ‘Star Wars’ series was also being prepped for 2020. Reportedly, this series will feature Doctor Aphra, a female character that originated in the Marvel Comics ‘Star Wars’ line. Hopefully, that will tide fans over until ‘Cassian Andor’ and ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ arrive next year.
Tony Gilroy, who helmed the extensive reshoots of ‘Rogue One’, is attached to write ‘Cassian Andor’ and will direct an undetermined number of episodes. Stephen Schaffer (‘The Americans’) serves as showrunner. Diego Luna stars, reprising his role from ‘Rogue One’, with Alan Tudyk returning to voice the sardonic droid K-2SO. The series is also rumored to include flashbacks to a 9-13-year-old version of Andor, as well as his 9-year-old sister.

Luna recently discussed his excitement about getting to tell more stories featuring his character, saying:
“When I saw the film the first time, I was so disappointed at the end. And not because of the film. My son said, ‘But that’s it, Dad. Right? That’s it,’ And I go, ‘Well, yes. That’s the thing about this film.’ Even though I knew, and I understood, I think that’s the moment where I really got it.
“I really realized that a character I loved, and a universe I couldn’t care more about [was done]. But the tone of our film, it pays honor to, I believe, the best times of this universe, and obviously, I say the best because it’s when I was open and ready to receive that. Those [Star Wars] films left a very deep mark on me, as [the] audience, and as a filmmaker.”
Here’s hoping that Disney+ can get these shows ready soon. Disney+ made a huge splash when it launched late last year, but with no more ‘Star Wars’ shows or any of the Marvel series coming any time soon, some adult subscribers might jump ship until there is more product geared toward them.
