From the Matrix to… Canada? Doesn’t sound too bad, except for the feral cannibals. I’m pretty sure Laurence Fishburne can handle the many perils of The Great White North, cannibals or not. But Morpheus isn’t heading up there for no reason. THR is reporting that Fishburne is in final negotiations to star in ‘The Colony’, a sixteen million dollar Canadian indie film. In addition to the veteran actor, Kevin Zegers of ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Dawn of the Dead’ is set to join the cast as well.
‘The Colony’ is a sci-fi thriller set after the next Ice Age about a group of survivors who are trying to keep an invasion of savage cannibals at bay. Jeff Renfroe, who is also attached to direct the film, wrote the script with Patrick Tarr, Pascal Trottier and Svet Rouskov. Alcina Pictures is producing with Item 7 and Mad Samurai Productions.
Producers are keeping everything about the film very hush-hush for the time being. More details, such as the rest of the cast and a more detailed synopsis should emerge once production starts up in Toronto on February 22nd. They are scheduled to shoot there through March 30th.
Judging by the lack of experience listed on the IMDB pages of those involved, minus the two announced actors, this might be the first big rodeo for these cowboys. Maybe with the help of The Silver Surfer (That’s right! Laurence Fishburne voiced The Silver Surfer) and Josh from ‘Air Bud’, they can finally break into the big leagues.
