We’ve known for a while now that the first season of the animated Disney+ show, Marvel’s “What If…?,” was getting a follow-up season. Today, Disney and Marvel have confirmed the new season’s release date, along with some additional fun information about the release schedule of the individual episodes. Read on for more info! Starting its life in comic-book form back in 1977, Marvel’s series told alternate-reality tales about heroes and characters that readers knew well. The first issue was titled “What if… Spider-Man Joined the Fantastic Four?” and it set the precedent that readers would be seeing, essentially, the early stages of what would eventually become known as The Multiverse. Now that the stories have shifted onto the television screen with the first season of “What If…?,” the tales being told are directly connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its version of classic Marvel characters. The nine episodes in the inaugural season revolved around tales of alternate versions of The Avengers, Black Panther, Ultron, Doctor Strange, zombies, and more! Kevin Feige Confirms We’ll Get At Least 2 Seasons Of ‘What If…?’

Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ animated series takes a look at what the Marvel Cinematic Universe would look like if one major factor was changed. This includes ideas such as “What if Peggy Carter had the Super Soldier Serum” and “What if T’Challa became Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star-Lord.” Now, thanks to an interview with Kevin Feige, we’ve learned that this is a Disney+ show that we’ll be getting at least two seasons! Not only that, but Marvel Studios’ head also let us in on the episode count for the series, which is going to be a shorter format than many thought. The original pitch was that there would be an episode released for each of the movies in the MCU, and while that still appears to be the case, it seems that it’ll be split up. Thanks to Buzz Feed Brazil, Feige revealed: “I’m very happy that we’re doing the What If…? series for Disney+ right now, and I’ve seen most of them. Get A First Look At ‘What If Peggy Carter Took The Super Soldier Serum?’

In addition to the live-action MCU-based on the movies, Disney+ is offering the animated ‘What If…?’ series, which borrows its name from the popular comic book that told stories set in hypothetic realities where things went very differently from the mainstream Marvel Universe. The ‘What If…?’ animated series will be based on the MCU, so all of the stories will reinvent events from the hit films. The first will imagine a reality where it was Peggy Carter who became the Super Soldier, not Steve Rogers. Instead, skinny weakling Rogers will make his contribution to the Allies’ World War II efforts with the help of Howard Stark, who suits him up with a bulky suit of armor, reminiscent of Tony Stark’s Mark I armor. Together, the pair resemble DC’s ‘Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E.’ duo of Courtney Whitmore and her stepfather Pat or “Stripesy,” with Peggy flying to battle while essentially riding Steve’s armor like a steed. Marvel Studios’ Move To TV On Disney+ Puts The Future Of Marvel TV In Doubt

Perhaps Hulu’s recent cancellation of ‘Ghost Rider’ is a sign of a larger issue. Buzz is building that Marvel TV may be kaput as Marvel Studios is moving into the TV game with a series of live-action shows coming to Disney+. Those shows will feature characters and actors from Marvel’s films and much larger budgets than what is currently offered by Marvel TV. One TV lit agent told Variety: “Feige’s shows are so far beyond anything Marvel TV has been able to do. He has access to all of these MCU characters that the other Marvel live-action stuff just doesn’t, not to mention way bigger budgets.” Marvel TV, overseen by Jeph Loeb, is a division of Marvel Entertainment, headed up by Isaac Perlmutter. Marvel Studios, and its president Kevin Feige, report directly to Disney, specifically to Alan Horn and Alan Bergman. Money was one of the major reasons why Feige butted heads with Perlmutter and he threatened to quit outright before Disney agreed to break Marvel Studios off from Marvel Entertainment and set it up as its own entity. A ‘What If…?’ Episode Will Feature Black Panther As… Star Lord?

‘What If…?‘ will be giving us some significant twists to the Marvel Cinematic Universe when the series launches on Disney+ and now we’ve learned that one of the major changes will be that T’Challa/Black Panther will end up as one of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It isn’t clear why the King of Wakanda will end up in space or what that will mean for Chadwick Boseman’s character. The news is fleshed out a bit thanks to showrunner Ashley Bradley who has been opening up as to what we can expect from this quirky series. According to Bradley: “On the reel [shown at D23], there is this image of a Star-Lord T’Challa because we wanted to see what if the worlds of Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy collided. We’ve long been teased that Peggy Carter will become Captain America in ‘What If…?‘ and now showrunner Ashley Bradley is sharing how it all came together. Fans of Hayley Atwell are thrilled to hear that she’ll be returning to voice her character one last time and having her reimaged as the one to receive the super-soldier serum will give us an entirely new take on how the Marvel Cinematic Universe could have progressed. While the show always planned on doing something related to Steve Rogers first, the exact story wasn’t set in stone: “Early on, there was already this consensus to do Captain America as the first episode. We didn’t know which- what the story would be exactly. Then this idea of Peggy Carter, not only a fan favorite but a favorite around the Marvel offices, and getting to show her story more became tantalizing. It was just fun and fascinating. For those familiar with the comic book series ‘What If…,’ the premise of the series set to debut on streaming service Disney+ should come as no surprise. For readers who may not know of the series: ‘What If…’ is a long-running Marvel title in which each issue is focused on an “alternate reality” of the Marvel Universe showing what would have happened to well-known characters and situations had certain events turned out differently. At the D23 Expo, Marvel and parent company Disney announced that the first season of ‘What If…’ will have 23 episodes – one episode to focus on each film currently in existence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel dumped a ton of information on fans at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, laying out plans for the next two years, which includes five movies and five Disney+ TV series, plus one additional announcement– a new ‘Blade’ movie starring Mahershala Ali. That was on top of offering insight into ‘Black Widow’, ‘Eternals’, ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, and ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, plus ‘WandaVision’, ‘The Falcon & The Winter Soldier’, ‘Loki’, ‘What If?’, and ‘Hawkeye’. What could there possibly be left to say? Well, hold on to your capes, True Believers. Marvel Studios Releases The Logo, Narrator, And Cast List For ‘What If…?’

Marvel’s animated ‘What If…?‘ series for Disney+ is going to be a reunion of talent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe nearly on par with ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The show is bringing back some of the biggest names from the MCU to ask “What If” significant events from the films happened differently. The concept is based on a long-running series from Marvel Comics that takes major events and slightly tweaks them to share what could have happened if only one change was made to the events as they had unfolded. These comics were always narrated by one of The Watchers, and Marvel Studios has released that Jeffrey Wright will be voicing the character. Of his new role, the talented actor shared: “The Watcher is a non-Earthly being who observes all things. He’s watching over the multiverse and occasionally may nor may not intervene with the doings of earthlings, other than that he’s off doing his own things…Today is the 50th Anniversary of the Moonlanding. Kevin Feige Stresses The Quality And Importance Of The Marvel Series On Disney+

Kevin Feige wants to assure fans that the upcoming slate of Marvel original shows coming to the Disney+ streaming service will maintain the high level of quality established by the films. Not only that, but the new shows– ‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’, ‘WandaVision’, and ‘Loki’— will have an impact on the film universe and vice versa. In fact, Feige made sure that it was clear that these are the first TV shows from Marvel Studios, the makers of the films, to draw a distinction between them and existing shows on other platforms like ABC’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, Hulu’s ‘Runaways’, Freeform’s ‘Cloak & Dagger’ and the various Netflix entries which were created without input from the film division and, as such, have no impact on it. As Feige stated at the press conference: “These shows will be on the same level of quality that you’d come to expect from Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige appeared onstage at the huge Disney+ press conference to help discuss the offerings that will be available once that service launches later this year. In addition to theatrical films like ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (can you believe we’re already talking about ‘Endgame’ and how it will be available after its theatrical run?), a series of original Marvel Studios TV series are on their way. Feige made sure to stress that these projects originate with Marvel Studios and that they will be the FIRST television projects to do so, drawing a clear line between these and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, the Netflix shows, ‘Cloak & Dagger’, ‘Runaways’, and all other existing series, live-action and animated. Not A Hoax! Not A Dream! Disney+ Is Presenting A ‘What If…?’ Animated Series

While superhero comics had extensively published hypothetical, dream, and imaginary stories that took place out of continuity and explored the lives of its famous stars under different circumstances almost from the start, in 1977, Marvel Comics took things to another level with ‘What If…?’ an entire series dedicated to these hypothetical tales. Unlike some past “imaginary stories,” these were usually built around a twist in a famous event from the comics, like the first issue, which asked, “What If Spider-Man Had Joined the ‘Fantastic Four’?” which took a divergent look at ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ #1, in which the wall-crawler attempted to do just that, or issue #5, which presented “What if Captain America had not vanished during World War II?” which presented a different take on ‘Avengers’ #4. Now Disney+ is about to explore these alternate realities with a ‘What If…?’ animated series, overseen by Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige. Like the comics, this is an anthology, with each episode presenting a stand-alone story. Back in January 2013, Marvel announced that Brian Michael Bendis’ long-awaited storyline ‘Age of Ultron’ would finally be going to print. Fans were excited to say the least and many were expecting the 10-issue limited series to change the landscape of the Marvel Universe forever. However, by the time the final issue came out in June, everyone was pretty much done with it. The story was riddled with plot holes and far too many unanswered questions. I recall saying that Bendis started off telling an interesting and engaging story, but then yadda yadda yaddaed over the best parts to something completely different. Overall, the whole thing was sort of a bust with a few redeeming qualities. Fast forward to one month ago. The House of Ideas shared that they would be releasing one of their infamous ‘What If?’ series for the underwhelming crossover event. Written by Joe Keatinge, ‘What If? The evil robot Ultron is a pretty hot commodity these days. Not only did he star in Brian Michael Bendis’ crossover event ‘Age of Ultron‘, but he also lends his name to the highly anticipated Joss Whedon sequel, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, where he will be played by James Spader. However, not many fans were very receptive the angry AI’s recent comic book storyline. In fact, a lot of people were just plain let down. They may have found themselves asking, “What if this were any good?” Well, now Marvel Comics themselves are asking the same question to some degree because next month they will be releasing ‘What If? Age of Ultron’ #1. Two months ago, we learned that the massive 2012 Marvel crossover event ‘Avengers Vs. X-Men’ would be revisited in the form of a ‘What If?’ mini-series when all four covers of ‘What If? Avengers Vs. X-Men’ were unveiled. For those unfamiliar, the idea behind this series is to basically look back on a story and reimagine it as if it had gone a different way. Or, as it’s often explained in the books by a Watcher (or the recap page), we take a look at another timeline to see how events played out differently from our own. For example, one of my favorites is ‘What If The Runaways Became The Young Avengers?’. I think you get the idea. Now, the wait is over to see what Jimmy Palmiotti and Jorge Molina have come up with when they asked the question in reference to ‘AVX’.
