Starting its life in comic-book form back in 1977, Marvel’s series told alternate-reality tales about heroes and characters that readers knew well.  The first issue was titled “What if… Spider-Man Joined the Fantastic Four?” and it set the precedent that readers would be seeing, essentially, the early stages of what would eventually become known as The Multiverse. Now that the stories have shifted onto the television screen with the first season of “What If…?,” the tales being told are directly connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its version of classic Marvel characters.  The nine episodes in the inaugural season revolved around tales of alternate versions of The Avengers, Black Panther, Ultron, Doctor Strange, zombies, and more! While the complete list of episodes for Season 2 hasn’t been officially released yet, several leaks claim to outline the entire season.  Items that have been confirmed by Disney include […]

Go Big Or Go Home With The New ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ Trailer https://sciencefiction.com/2022/10/24/go-big-or-go-home-with-the-new-ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania-trailer/ https://sciencefiction.com/2022/10/24/go-big-or-go-home-with-the-new-ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania-trailer/#disqus_thread Mon, 24 Oct 2022 18:36:08 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355767   Marvel has made plenty of waves this year with both their newly-released MCU content (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk) and key announcements for the forthcoming Phases of film & TV. One of the most anticipated upcoming films easily has to be ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’  After the first Ant-Man film was a pleasant surprise to both fans and critics alike, and its follow-up ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ continued to build on that success – not to mention casually dropping one of the most impactful pre-‘Endgame’ mid-credit scenes of all MCU time – fans now know that Marvel isn’t afraid to load this part of the MCU franchise with big reveals and important info. With that, today brings us the first trailer for the film that’s dropping in theaters in just a few short months.  It gives us a better look at the newest big-bad of the Marvel on-screen universe, Kang the Conqueror, along with some very tantalizing tidbits about what secrets the Quantum Realm is holding – and how long Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) has truly known about these secrets. Take a good look for yourself: […]

Speaking of the Guardians team, however – it’s hard to tell how heavily they will feature in the film, as not only is this not “their story,” but the newest trailer that just dropped really seems to minimize their involvement in the main plot of the film.  This is a stark […]

Details of the story are being kept mostly under wraps, but Marvel does tell us that both the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom will try (and apparently fail to some degree) to contain the Darkhold from wreaking it’s magical destruction across the Marvel Universe.  The company was kind enough to share the covers to two of the upcoming special issues, Darkhold: Iron Man #1 and Darkhold: Blade #1, as well […]

The digital release is now coming in just a few weeks, on August 10th.  The film’s physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD will follow on September 14th.  Both digital and physical releases will feature a large amount of extra content, including a blooper reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and nine deleted scenes for fans to enjoy. Check out Disney’s official press release below, along with the trailer for the film.  “Black Widow” stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Rachel Weisz as Melina, David Harbour as Alexei/Red Guardian, Ray Winstone as Dreykov, O-T Fagbenle as Mason, and William Hurt as Secretary Ross. Spoiler-Free Preview: ‘WandaVision’ https://sciencefiction.com/2021/01/14/spoiler-free-preview-wandavision/ https://sciencefiction.com/2021/01/14/spoiler-free-preview-wandavision/#disqus_thread Thu, 14 Jan 2021 17:01:06 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355466 Thanks to the fine folks as Disney+, we were granted early access to the first three episodes of the first-ever MCU TV series, ‘WandaVision.’  This is a spoiler-free over-arching review, as we would never want to intentionally spoil anything for our readers!  You’ll find individual reviews of Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 here on ScienceFiction.com, as they become available to the public. The first thing that jumps out at the viewer upon engaging with the new series is that this is definitely NOT your typical entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  It’s no secret that the previews have shown the episodes with a decidedly “classic TV sitcom” type of vibe, and this is the general format that the show follows, with each episode “taking place” in a different chronological sitcom era, progressing forward through time (at least, through the first trio of episodes, anyhow); the first episode is set in a 1950s type of ‘I Love Lucy’ vibe, with episode two wandering into the ‘Bewitched’ feel of the 1960s, and the third episode moves things smoothly into the 1970s, with some of the televised technological advances that came with that era. A unique point of the series is […]

Marvel Is Looking To Oscar Isaac To Be MCU’s Moon Knight https://sciencefiction.com/2020/10/27/marvel-is-looking-to-oscar-isaac-to-be-mcus-moon-knight/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/10/27/marvel-is-looking-to-oscar-isaac-to-be-mcus-moon-knight/#disqus_thread Tue, 27 Oct 2020 14:30:37 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355330 In a new announcement, Deadline is reporting that Oscar Isaac is in negotiations with Disney/Marvel to portray the lead character in a Disney+ TV series ‘Moon Knight.’ The show’s story line will be developed by Jeremy Slater, who will also serve as lead writer for the show; Slater is best known to genre fans as the writer of Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’ series, in addition to having the dubious honor of being the original writer of the (admittedly heavily rewritten) 2015 ‘Fantastic Four’ and 2017 ‘Death Note’ films. For those unfamiliar with the character of Moon Knight, here’s part of his bio, from the Marvel website: Born to a respectable family, but eschewing its history and beliefs Marc Spector cut his own path through life by becoming a boxer, a Marine, and finally a CIA operative. Disgusted by the organizations practices and hurt by his own brother Randall’s betrayal, Spector ejected whatever morals he still possessed and fell into mercenary work around the globe. During this dark time, he made friends with Jean-Paul “Frenchie” DuChamp, one of the only bright spots in the violent profession of a hired gun. Tiring of overthrowing governments and assassinations, Spector entered into the orbit […]

Hot on the heels of the recent news that Jamie Foxx will be reprising his franchise-jumping role of Electro in ‘Spider-Man 3,’ news has broken today that Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Doctor Strange in the film as well – and his appearance could potentially serve as an explanation of sorts for Electro’s presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Foxx’s Electro appeared once on-screen, in 2014’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’  This, of course, is not the direct sequel to the upcoming Spider-Man film, but rather the end of Sony’s failed attempt to bring Spidey back to the big screen with Andrew Garfield in the lead role.  Sony does still own the rights to Spider-Man and related characters, but they have struck a deal with Marvel to incorporate the hero, now portrayed on-screen by Tom Holland, into the MCU.  The deal was at risk of expiring late last year, but the two companies worked it out, and Marvel is now set to produce ‘Spider-Man 3,’ the first film in this trilogy which they will be so doing. So, that’s a long-winded way to say that Foxx’s […]

Now, Marvel has released a synopsis which has given a few new key details for the show. You can read the first official synopsis below! In Marvel Studios’ new series, the mercurial villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston) resumes his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Kate Herron directs, and Michael Waldron is head writer. Debuts on Disney+ next year—2021.     RELATED: RUMOR MILL: ‘Loki’ May Introduce Sera, The First Transgender Marvel Character   While this does take place after ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ it still isn’t clear if this Loki is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we’ve been watching for over 20-films or one in an alternate timeline. However, Hiddleston has confirmed that he’s been asked two key questions: “Is Loki really dead and what is Loki doing with that cube? It’s always the cubes. This series will answer both of the questions.” One thing we have learned is that the God of Mischief will likely be up […]

While the God of Lies won’t be the same incarnation that we’ve come to know and love – as this one hasn’t gone through all the events from ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, or his death in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ – this version is a Loki who has yet to be redeemed. On top of that, since this will be Loki we saw escape in ‘Endgame, he will be carrying an Infinity Stone at the start of the series. However, you shouldn’t think that Marvel Studios will allow for anything like this to happen again. I’m glad that they’ve decided to officially make this decision that Stan “The Man” Lee is the only one who is going to have this kind of continuous cameo. Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Production Victoria Alonso spoke to the Miami Latin News late last year near the tail end of the “We Love You 3000” tour to explain: “Stan Lee is not replaceable. So we will never try. That is the legend, the man, we will never try to replace him. Other people will come around, and then you have someone as phenomenally creative as [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige, but there’s only one Stan Lee.” Say what you will about how he conducted his business years back, Lee is an icon for Marvel fans. It was eventually hinted at from his appearance in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ that he either was a Watcher or one of their agents, at least when it came to his onscreen […]

Fox introduced Marsden to the world as Scott Summers in 2000, and the actor reprised the role several times before his final outing in 2014’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ Between those films, we also met Tye Sheridan as a younger version of the character in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ briefly Tim Pocock also played a younger Cyclops in the movie we’d all like to forget: 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’ While multiple actors have played the iconic mutant, Marsden is the actor most audiences associate with the role. It seems like a no-brainer that Marvel Studios would want to bring one of the team’s most important X-Men member into the MCU, so with that in mind, Marsden has some great advice to whoever next wears the visor: “The biggest challenge was that, the audience and other actors never being able to see your eyes. Definitely was a handicap in bringing a persona to the character, and an energy to the character. To a character who is also very, by nature, very by-the-books. Kind of a Boy Scout, ‘do the right thing.’ […]

This news is coming from their source has given them a few major scoops in the past, such as the ‘Inhumans’ movie being scrapped, Quicksilver dying in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, and the budget of the final two “Avengers” movies. As Marvel Studios will be pushing forward with more shows on Disney+, that isn’t a big surprise. However, the source stated that one of these two shows would be based on the “Secret Invasion” story arc, while another would involve a significant character from the MCU. Let’s take a look at a “Secret Invasion” series first. We’ve already had the Skrulls introduced thanks to ‘Captain Marvel,’ and with their introduction being in the 1980s, it would be easy to show that they’ve managed to infiltrate all levels of government. ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ also hinted that they could be working with SWORD, which is an agency that may or may not be appearing in other Disney+ shows from early […]

In fact, one was announced at Hulu before it was pulled from the schedule and left the character in limbo. Luna has always been interested in continuing the character, but it sounds that the long delay and series cancellation has left a bitter taste in his mouth. Recently, the actor was interviewed by Comicbook.com and let them know that: “I was gearing up for Ghost Rider for some time, a few years now, just on hold, waiting.
