The vacancies at the Bates Motel are filling up. In a follow up from yesterday’s news of Jessica Biel being cast in ‘Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho’ as Vera Miles, the actress who played Lila in ‘Psycho’, four more actors have joined the already impressive roster of talent being lined up for this film. Variety (via /Film) reports that Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg and Michael Wincott have all joined the cast.
Collette, who recently appeared in the remake of ‘Fright Night’ and Showtime’s ‘United States of Tara’, will play Peggy Robertson, Hitchcock’s longtime assistant. Huston, who’s new movie ‘Wrath of the Titans’ hits theaters next week, will play Whitfield Cook, a friend of the director’s wife, who will be portrayed in the film by the great Dame Helen Mirren.
Stuhlbarg, from ‘A Serious Man’ and ‘Hugo’, will play Hitchcock’s charismatic agent and friend, Lew Wasserman. And finally, the most interesting character of the bunch is to be played by Wincott, who can be seen in films such as ‘The Crow’, ‘The Doors’, and ‘Alien: Resurrection’. He will play the serial killer Ed Gein, who the character of Norman Bates is partially based upon. Wincott will be the latest addition to the list of actors who have stepped in Gein’s shoes on the silver screen over the years, which includes Roberts Blossom, Steve Railsback, and Kane Hodder.
These four join Biel, Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, James D’Arcy, and Sir Anthony Hopkins, who will play the man known as the Master of Suspense, director Alfred Hitchcock. Considering that such a talented cast is attached to a story as interesting as this, it’s pretty safe to say that this one is worth looking forward to.
