With the impending release of the first “anthology” film in the franchise, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is primed to capitalize on the near-fever-pitch level of excitement that currently exists for the Star Wars Universe. Initial screenings of the film have just begun, and praise from critics has been almost exclusively high, with some people saying that ‘Rogue One’ is in many ways a better film than last year’s ‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.’
While getting ready for the film to drop to the masses this weekend, Disney is giving us a few new videos and featurettes to make sure the film is front and center in our awareness. First up is a mini-film that introduces us to K2-SO, the former Empire droid turned Rebel associate, voiced in the film by Alan Tudyk and brought to life via the magic of CGI. Check out some of his back-story:
We also have a featurette on Scarif, a planet heavily featured in ‘Rogue One’ during pivotal battle scenes between the Empire and the Rebellion. Unlike the snowy Hoth or the dry heat of Tattooine, Scarif is a rather idyllic setting – but that doesn’t stop the battle from raging on its surface. Take a peek:
‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ hits American theaters this Friday, December 16, 2016.
