“Fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering.”
Frank Oz, Yoda himself, doesn’t get the anger that has followed in the wake of ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’ It is a movie that clearly polarized fans by following and tearing down established tropes in a galaxy far,far away and many of these changes weren’t what fans had expected.
That is where the backlash began. From the “Casino Royale” styled side quest to how Luke Skywalker‘s story plays out to the speed of these starships during that ridiculously slow chase scene – there is a slew of areas that audiences have focused their hatred on.
While many had complaints, most fans enjoyed the return of Frank Oz as Yoda, and but isn’t where they took issue with the film. However, the problems which did come up the actor just can’t understand.
“Yeah, there’s a whole backlash. I couldn’t understand that whole backlash. I didn’t get it. I thought it was a great piece of work. I never understood that backlash. I’m somebody that works with the script, and if the script is there and I believe the script is organic and right for the moment and the character, then that’s kind of all I think about. I don’t think about extra powers or anything; I just go with it. I just don’t consider that really.”
We’ve seen a variety of complaints, including some from Yoda’s star pupil Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill has vocally had issues with the film while it was in production though has since appeared to mostly come around to what director Rian Johnson released.
Even so, some die-hard fans are still firmly against the movie. I, for one, quite enjoyed ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and while I do understand the complaints, I haven’t let any of them ruin the film for me.
Are you on Team Yoda and agree that ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ was a fantastic film or did the problems with it just irk you too much? Even if you enjoyed the movie can you “understand the whole backlash” that it has suffered? Share your thoughts below!
