We’ve known for a while now that the first season of the animated Disney+ show, Marvel’s “What If…?,” was getting a follow-up season. Today, Disney and Marvel have confirmed the new season’s release date, along with some additional fun information about the release schedule of the individual episodes. Read on for more info! Starting its life in comic-book form back in 1977, Marvel’s series told alternate-reality tales about heroes and characters that readers knew well. The first issue was titled “What if… Spider-Man Joined the Fantastic Four?” and it set the precedent that readers would be seeing, essentially, the early stages of what would eventually become known as The Multiverse. Now that the stories have shifted onto the television screen with the first season of “What If…?,” the tales being told are directly connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its version of classic Marvel characters. The nine episodes in the inaugural season revolved around tales of alternate versions of The Avengers, Black Panther, Ultron, Doctor Strange, zombies, and more! An Agatha Harkness ‘WandaVision’ Spin-Off is in the Works at Disney+

According to a report from Variety, Disney+ plans to launch a ‘WandaVision’ spinoff based around the character of Agatha Harkness. As typical with most Marvel projects, details on this future Disney+ series are slim to none, however, we do know that Kathryn Hahn will revive her role as fan-favorite Agatha Harkness and it looks like Jac Schaeffer, head writer of ‘WandaVision,’ would be filling the slot as the writer and executive producer. While sources have described the show as a dark comedy, we know we can all look forward to one of our favorite witches returning to the screen in what is sure to be another captivating series. The God Of Mischief Is ’10 Steps Ahead Of You’ In The New ‘Loki’ Trailer & Photos

Even with the success of the now-complete ‘WandaVision’ series and the in-progress ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ series, Disney isn’t resting on their laurels or taking it easy when it comes to the future success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its forays into interconnected televised content. As a perfect example: coming hot on the heels of ‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’ after that series concludes is the series that may be the most eagerly anticipated of all the Marvel small-screen work, the Tom Hiddleston-led ‘Loki’ mini-series. Seeming to pick up Loki’s story pretty much immediately following when audiences last saw him – opportunistically stealing the Tesseract during the time-hopping chaos of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ – the God of Mischief looks to have gotten himself mixed up with the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The TVA appears to function as a sort of space-time regulatory force, and from the hints we’ve been given so far, it would seem that Loki’s action have caused some temporal ripples that need ironed out, with the god’s semi-unwilling assistance, of course. Family Friendly Sci-Fi Mystery-Adventure Series ‘Secrets Of Sulphur Springs’ Coming To Disney+

In the wide-ranging world of science fiction and suspenseful mystery-adventure fare, it can sometimes be a challenge to find content that is suitable for all ages. I myself have a 3-year-old son and an eleven-year-old daughter, and much of what I watch on TV and movies I feel like I cannot share with one or both of them; for example, although my daughter is now well-versed in every recorded moment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I obviously am not sitting down to a viewing of ‘Event Horizon’ with her anytime soon, and even the MCU stuff was only borderline appropriate to share with her up until a year or two ago. It’s great to find, then, a series that encompasses some mystery, some intrigue, a dash of supernatural horror, and even a little sci-fi by way of time travel, AND have said series be completely accessible to all ages. Such is the case with ‘Secrets of Sulphur Springs,’ an original series that is coming to Disney+ on February 26 of this year. Jon Favreau Says The Mandalorian’s Big Season-Ending Cameo Wasn’t Originally Planned

We tried to avoid giving away any big spoilers in the episode title, but c’mon now: if you haven’t seen the second season finale episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ yet and have somehow avoided knowing that Luke Skywalker makes a cameo appearance, then you’re probably not reading this article anyhow, and if you are, well oops, consider yourself spoiled. In any case, the appearance of the CGIed Young Skywalker was likely the biggest surprise to come from the series, which in an of itself is an impressive feat, as the show has routine dropped surprise after surprise for viewers in the form of cameos, fan-favorite characters from other media, and lets not forget about the pretty huge bombshell all the way back in the first episode about the appearance of Baby Yoda Grogu in an of itself. Believe it or not, however, the inclusion of Luke into the series’ story arc was not something that was in the mix from the get-go. Thanks to the fine folks as Disney+, we were granted early access to the first three episodes of the first-ever MCU TV series, ‘WandaVision.’ This is a spoiler-free over-arching review, as we would never want to intentionally spoil anything for our readers! You’ll find individual reviews of Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 here on ScienceFiction.com, as they become available to the public. The first thing that jumps out at the viewer upon engaging with the new series is that this is definitely NOT your typical entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s no secret that the previews have shown the episodes with a decidedly “classic TV sitcom” type of vibe, and this is the general format that the show follows, with each episode “taking place” in a different chronological sitcom era, progressing forward through time (at least, through the first trio of episodes, anyhow); the first episode is set in a 1950s type of ‘I Love Lucy’ vibe, with episode two wandering into the ‘Bewitched’ feel of the 1960s, and the third episode moves things smoothly into the 1970s, with some of the televised technological advances that came with that era. Dank farrik, Disney had it’s Investors Day 2020 on Thursday and unleashed a metric butt-ton of information about its forthcoming Star Wars properties. There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s dive right in. Directly from Disney’s press release: Lucasfilm announced an impressive number of exciting Disney+ series and new feature films destined to expand the Star Wars galaxy like never before. Among the projects for Disney+ are “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” starring Ewan McGregor with Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader, and two series set in the Mandalorian era from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni: “Rangers of the New Republic” and “Ahsoka,” a series featuring the fan favorite character Ahsoka Tano. Additional new titles announced for Disney+ include “Andor,” “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” “Star Wars: Visions,” “Lando,” “The Acolyte,” and “A Droid Story.” The studio is also revisiting “Willow” in a new series with Warwick Davis returning in the title role. WARNING: Spoilers lie ahead for “The Tragedy,” episode 14 of ‘The Mandalorian.’ If you have not seen this episode and wish the details to remain unbeknownst to you, the time to stop reading is now! This past week’s episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ is a prime example of why Disney simply refers to the each installment as “Chapter XX” until their actual air date. If the average fan’s response is anything like my wife’s when she saw that this episode was titled “The Tragedy,” then most folks knew they were in for a serious emotional roller coaster. (I believe her exact words were, “If that sweet, sweet Baby Yoda dies, I will burn Disney to the ground.”) Indeed, the episode was filled with suspense, intrigue, a return of not one but two previously-left-for-dead characters (one of whom was left for dead back in the 1980s, no less), and of course, the aforementioned tragedy (although, fortuitously, it wasn’t quite as bad as my wife thought it was going to be, and the Disney campus remains standing). Marvel Is Looking To Oscar Isaac To Be MCU’s Moon Knight

In a new announcement, Deadline is reporting that Oscar Isaac is in negotiations with Disney/Marvel to portray the lead character in a Disney+ TV series ‘Moon Knight.’ The show’s story line will be developed by Jeremy Slater, who will also serve as lead writer for the show; Slater is best known to genre fans as the writer of Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’ series, in addition to having the dubious honor of being the original writer of the (admittedly heavily rewritten) 2015 ‘Fantastic Four’ and 2017 ‘Death Note’ films. For those unfamiliar with the character of Moon Knight, here’s part of his bio, from the Marvel website: Born to a respectable family, but eschewing its history and beliefs Marc Spector cut his own path through life by becoming a boxer, a Marine, and finally a CIA operative. Disgusted by the organizations practices and hurt by his own brother Randall’s betrayal, Spector ejected whatever morals he still possessed and fell into mercenary work around the globe. Marvel’s ‘WandaVision’ Gets A New Trailer And Confirmation Of A 2020 Release Date

For anyone who was debating canceling their Disney+ subscription anytime soon, Marvel has thrown down the (Infinity) gauntlet and smoothly said “on your left” with the release of the first full trailer for the forthcoming ‘WandaVision’ series, the first series from Marvel Studios to stream exclusively on their parent company’s online service. Unleashed upon the world during the broadcast of the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, Disney has confirmed via their marketing materials sent to us that the series will premiere sometime before the end of this calendar year. Jon Favreau Talks ‘The Mandalorian’s Stripped-Down Approach And Pleasing Hardcore Fans

There is no denying that ‘The Mandalorian’ was a huge smash when it debuted on Disney+ late last year, but as popular as the show was, it wasn’t seen as being particularly high-brow. So it came as a shock when the series was nominated for 15 Emmy Awards, including the prestigious Outstanding Drama Series, possibly the top award of the night. Super Saturday: ‘X-Men’ Season 1 (1992)

This column has been in the works since I started writing Super Saturday. While I will get into the issues with ‘X-Men’– and there are quite a few– I will go on the record as saying that this might be the most IMPORTANT cartoon in Saturday morning history. (It’s debatable, I admit.) But I fully believe that the first ‘X-Men’ movie probably never would have been made had it not been for the massive success of the cartoon. And if the first ‘X-Men’ movie hadn’t been made, the steady deluge of superhero movies that followed wouldn’t have happened. If those movies hadn’t been made, it’s very likely that Marvel Comics would have gone out of business, as it was already facing bankruptcy before licensing these movies saved their bacon. And of course, had that happened, there wouldn’t be a Marvel Cinematic Universe. Is that overselling the ‘X-Men’ cartoon? No, I actually don’t think so. Had this show not existed, it would have set off a chain of events that would have resulted in a pop culture landscape far, far different than the one we know today. The ‘LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special’ Set For Disney+ In November

Disney+ may not offer the ‘Star Wars Holiday Special’, but it will deliver a new spin– a ‘LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special’. And like the original, this will be a celebration of Life Day. In this one, Rey and BB-8 stumble upon a Jedi temple, where she learns more about The Force, but then they find themselves transported through space and time, interacting with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and more characters from the saga. They must find their way out of the time warp and the temple in order to reunite with their friends for their planned Life Day festivities on Chewbacca’s home planet of Kashyyyk, the setting of the original ‘Holiday Special’. The story is set after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, although executive producer Josh Rimes cited ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles’, ‘Christmas Vacation’ and Burl Ives as inspirations. Rimes stated: “We wanted to give a wink and a nod to the original… It’s a celebration of the saga. Disney+’s ‘Cassian Andor’ Casts Its Leading Lady With Adria Arjona

Adria Arjona has been cast as the female lead in Disney+’s prequel series ‘Cassian Andor’ starring Diego Luna, reprising his role from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’. Alan Rudyk is also returning from ‘Rogue One’ as the voice of wry droid K-2SO, and Genevieve O’Reilly will return as Mon Mothma. The series will also feature actors Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgård, and Kyle Soller in undisclosed roles. Arjona’s character is also unknown at this point. Tony Gilroy, who oversaw reshoots on ‘Rogue One’ will write and direct, while ‘The Americans” Stephen Schiff will act as showrunner. ‘Rogue One’ made over $1 billion at the box office, and so far, Disney+’s one ‘Star Wars’ series, ‘The Mandalorian’ was a streaming and merchandising bonanza, and “Baby Yoda”/The Child became a viral meme sensation. Giancarlo Esposito‘s performance as Moff Gideon on Disney+’s ‘The Mandalorian’ was memorable enough to land him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama. He only appeared in two episodes of the first season, but expect to see a lot more of him in Season 2 when it debuts later this year. Gideon was a sinister enough threat on his own, but by the end of the season finale, he revealed an even greater danger– one that raised a lot of questions– the Darksaber. Esposito teased: “You’ll see more of the Darksaber, you’ll get the explanation of this ancient weapon to the modern world, a collapsed world. Where did this saber come from and how was it revived?
