It’s a question that has intrigued storytellers and audiences alike for generations.  The desire to take something known and twist it ever so slightly, to the point where elements and pieces are not immediately recognizable – or worse, things are chillingly recognizable and seemingly appropriate in their darker state. The thought of “yes, I could see something like this happening” is perhaps one of the scariest story premises out there – especially when what we’re being presented with is dark and dangerous. Such is the case with ‘Civil War,’ the new film from director Alex Garland and production studio A24. Taking place in the indeterminately-near future, the political and socio-economical divide in the United States of America has grown to the point where the country has fractured, with several states deciding to try their own hand at self-governance.  A few maps shown early in the film indicate that close to 20 states may be trying to secede in various ways.  Factions such as the “Florida Alliance” and the “New People’s Army” have arisen, but the two largest proponents have joined forces to create the “Western Forces,” and in a large-yet-subtle twist, it’s California and Texas, of all the […]

Here’s the “official” description directly from Marvel: Here it is. ❤️ + ⚡ Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder arrives only in theaters July 8. The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr […]

Hopper Lives In First ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Teaser https://sciencefiction.com/2020/02/14/hopper-lives-in-first-stranger-things-season-4-teaser/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/02/14/hopper-lives-in-first-stranger-things-season-4-teaser/#disqus_thread Fri, 14 Feb 2020 16:05:06 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=350929 The one thing which we’ve all been dying to know is if Hopper was The American from the after-the-credits scene of the third season for ‘Stranger Things‘ and now the fourth season teaser confirms he is alive! We still have almost no details about the story but just knowing that David Harbour is back as Sheriff Hopper is going to have fans squealing with joy. I was always hopeful that we would see Eleven’s adoptive father return as he has been such a great character for the story, but we all know that no one is really safe on the show. You can view the ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 teaser in the tweet below!   From Russia with love… pic.twitter.com/ZWEMgy63Et — Stranger Things (@Stranger_Things) February 14, 2020 As you can tell from the Tweet, this clip is called “From Russia with love” and indicates that Hopper is currently working as forced labor by his captors. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to see how he ended up in Russia instead of The Upside Down. We’ve seen hints that the US Government was trying to use Eleven’s powers to spy and possibly even assassinate targets across the globe, and you can bet […]

CBS All Access dropped the teaser during recent NFL games and you know it won’t deliver a lot with only 30-seconds of footage. While executive producer Akiva Goldsman recently told fans that the plan for the new series was to “not make a sequel to Next Gen,” fans of the iconic “Star Trek” show will be thrilled to see more of the return of Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi. A sequel or not, the new show has no problem trying to capitalize on the nostalgia of what came before it.   RELATED:  CBS All Access Orders A Second Season Of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ Prior To Season 1’s Release   You can check out the latest trailer for right here!   Troi and Riker are two of Picard’s former officers who will be making an appearance, and I can’t wait to find out if any more will be returning. It is only 30-seconds long and not only precisely lines up with what we saw in the first film, but also shows how things have changed in a way that leaves you wanting more, in all the right ways! Fans of the first movie will likely see how this was left off and be excited for the full trailer and not frustrated by the lack of details or suspense which most teasers suffer from. The description from the trailer also includes a brief synopsis for the film: Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path. While part of me feels that this other threat will be further survivors of humanity, I’m eagerly hoping that we’ll see the Abbotts have to deal with either nature […]

Disenchantment Part 3 coming in 2020.” That’s the word from Netflix when it comes to fans of the series being able to return to Dreamland. I, for one, am thrilled that we’ll get more of this story and that the streaming giant hasn’t pulled the plug before Matt Groening (‘The Simpsons,’ Futurama‘) was able to complete his story.  Obviously, there is still time for this fantasy to come to a premature end unless the third chapter is the final one. Thankfully, HBO knew you’d want more right away and has released a trailer of what to expect “in the weeks ahead” for what might be a single season event. The first episode was a great mixture of bringing back ideas from Alan Moore’s iconic series while forging ahead in a brave new world. The series is set in modern times, but it is quick to note how different it is from our own. Technology has been put on the backburner while social issues appear even more relevant than in our own society. Not only that, but the clock is ticking as The Seventh Cavalry is marching ahead with a terrorist plot to destabilize an America already on edge. It appears that “after being launched into space by Kaz and crew, the Colossus encounters engineering problems, which are made worse by a mysterious stowaway.” The first trailer for the second season already promised us plenty of action, and I suspect that we’ll see our heroes still being on the run when this episode comes to an end. Check out the trailer for “Into The Unknown” right here!   To deal with their “engineering problems,” it seems like the crew of the Colossus wants to meet up with their friends in The Resistance. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that we’ll see them having to deal with The First Order who likely has already cleared out this base. They’ll probably either have overrun it or just left a smoldering crater in their wake.   RELATED:  The Trailer For The Second And Final Season Of ‘Star Wars: Resistance’ Has Landed   What did you think of the trailer for “Into the Unknown”? As Marvel Entertainment is hyping that “Season 7 is going to be a blast in the past!” it seems only fitting that we’ll also see the return of the threat which was most central to the story that made the show fun to watch – Hydra. We’ll be seeing the members of S.H.I.E.L.D. traveling through time so you can’t help but suspect that the Hydra tease means that we’ll see a past incarnation of the villains, but it is always possible that we’ll see the timeline altered for them to appear once more. Or, we might get another look of the virtual world which was created by The Chronicoms who were mapping the minds of “Fitzsimmons” to try and replicate time travel in the sixth season. You can see the first Marvel ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Season 7 Trailer right here! While the season kicks off in 1931 and we see what looks to be time-traveling Chronicoms following our Agents into the past, it is easy to guess […]

While there is an extensive set of actors attached to the project, this featurette only has time to share why Executive Producer Lisa Henson (‘Dinosaur Train’) as well as actors Natalie Dormer (‘Game of Thrones’), Taron Egerton (‘Kingsman’), Jason Isaacs (‘Star Trek: Discovery’), and Simon Pegg (‘Star Trek’) are eager for the prequel series to be released. Netflix shares this description of the: “It’s time to return to Thra. Watch the cast and creators discuss returning to Jim Henson’s creation almost 40 years later and getting the chance to expand and enrich this already beloved world.” It is hard to imagine that ‘The Dark Crystal’ is so old at this point. Directed by Henson and Frank Oz, it was a masterpiece ahead of its time. For only having a 30-second runtime, this promo is packed to the gills with details about the mid-season premiere. Constantine changed the past in the last episode and we’re getting hints at how some of that may play out here. What is fun about the episode is that the team will be heading back to the ’60s, but we quickly learn that there is more to the story as the “Men in Black” are once again referenced. The first episode when ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ returns to the small screen is titled “BELIEVE IT OR NOT.” Here’s the synopsis: When the Legends hear that Mona (Roman Young) has let a fugitive go, they must head to 1961 Mexico City to clean up her mess. Mona tries to convince the Legends and the Bureau that the people responsible for releasing the fugitive were some mysterious Men in Black and not her. With no evidence to back up her theory, the Legends must decide if they should […]

We’re just over 2 months away from the release of the third film in the “MonsterVerse,” and each teaser seems to be ramping up the action. That being said, it also feels like we’ve seen moments from every significant scene in the movie at this point and you have to hope that they’re being careful with the marketing here. Check out the 30-second teaser right here!   Previously, director Michael Dougherty stated that “the world is reacting to Godzilla in the same way we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting, but there’s paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we’re threatened by others like his kind.” The first movie showed us that there are more of his kind out there and now we’ll be seeing some of them emerge from the shadows. A New ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ Teaser Teaches Us A History Lesson https://sciencefiction.com/2019/03/06/new-shadows-teaser-teaches-us-history-lesson/ https://sciencefiction.com/2019/03/06/new-shadows-teaser-teaches-us-history-lesson/#disqus_thread Wed, 06 Mar 2019 16:15:03 +0000 http://sciencefiction.com/?p=318662 While we sadly won’t see Taika Waititi or Jemaine Clement starring in FX’s upcoming ‘What We Do in the Shadows‘ series they’ve clearly left their mark all over it. Based on the 2014 cult-classic the series follows a group of four vampires who have lived together in the United States for over 100 years. They came here with a mission but really had just been hanging around since arriving and dwell in Staten Island. As this is based in the same world as the original film, there is always a chance we may see a cameo at some point down the line. While most of the teasers so far have teased the connections to the original film and being a mockumentary, this one puts a focus on the history of some of these vampires. We’ll get a good look at who Kayvan Novak’s Nandor the Relentless, Natasia Demetriou’s Nadja, and Matt Berry’s Laszlo actually are. You can watch the teaser right here: This is probably the most information which we’ve received of each of these characters so far and does a better job at letting us get to know the stars of the series compared to the other teasers.
