Apparently, Kirsten Dunst is not too impressed with Sony and Marvel trying to reboot ‘Spider-Man’ again, as she seems to think they got it right the first time around, so why bother to continue making movies? Stepping down from her high horse for an interview recently with Marie Claire, Dunst shares her thoughts on the latest iteration of Spider-Man in the MCU:
“We made the best ones, so who cares? I’m like, ‘You make it all you want.’…They’re just milking that cow for money. It’s so obvious. You know what I mean.”
Which falls in line with other recent statements she has given about the ‘Spider-Man’ reboots, especially this one below she gave while speaking to Variety:
“I don’t care. Everyone likes our Spider-Man. C’mon, am I right or what? Listen, I’d rather be in the first ones than the new ones.”
So big revelation there, believe it or not, it seems studios are just out to make money (*gasp*), thank you, Kirsten Dunst, for enlightening us on that one. And this just in, it seems some actresses can be a bit petty.
Shocking, I know.
In all seriousness, I did enjoy the Sam Raimi ‘Spider-Man’ movies, truly, but they were far from perfect, and I have no problem with reboots, especially ones like what we are getting now where they are trying to do something fresh and different while still trying to stay true to the character. Do I wish they would have waited a few years before jumping right back in with the Andrew Garfield reboots, sure. That seemed really fast. But people love this character, and I think it is awfully short sighted of Dunst to not appreciate the demand for new stories featuring ‘Spider-Man’ up on the big screen. And even worse, it is a little sad that she cannot put aside her own ego and support the franchise that did so much for her all those years ago (because let’s be frank, she has not done much since). When so many other members of the ‘Spider-Man’ family have passed on the torch to the new generation, it seems a little pompous for Dunst to now cast aspersions on the new reboot like a jealous teenager.
