AMC and Amazon have struck a deal for the streaming service to carry the third ‘Walking Dead’ series in most of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.  AMC Networks International, the network’s sister global network, will carry the series in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.  eOne previously handled global distribution for ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Fear the Walking Dead’, but their contract with AMC ended earlier this year.

Valerie Cabrera, senior vice president of worldwide content distribution for AMC Studios, announced:

The Walking Dead represents some of the most compelling and coveted IP in the world, so we are extremely thrilled to have lined up international distribution of the third television series in the expanding universe of The Walking Dead with Amazon Prime Video and AMC Networks International.  A franchise and story that is rooted in our collective humanity, the appeal of The Walking Dead crosses language and cultural barriers and we can’t wait to share this highly-anticipated series with fans around the globe next year.”

The new ‘Walking Dead’ spin-off will arrive next spring.  The first season will consist of ten episodes, produced by AMC Studios.  The series hasn’t been given an official name at this point.  At New York Comic Con, this past weekend, the first trailer for the show was unveiled, showing a large community of 9,671 survivors that have managed to win the zombie apocalypse, walling off their settlement, and living in peace and safety.  The show is set ten years after the zombie outbreak and will focus on the children who have grown up in this reality.

At SDCC, the head of all things ‘Walking Dead’, Scott M. Gimple said:

“This is one of those big things that is happening at the same time as The Walking Dead, but they don’t know about each other.”

Aliyah Royale and Annet Mahendru head up the cast, as Iris and Huck respectively.  They are joined by  Nicolas Cantu as Elton, a small-for-his-age black belt, and stocky Hal Cumpston as shy loner Silas.  The show also stars Alexa Mansour as Hope, “a good-natured rule-breaker who lives for today. She is likable and funny on the outside but sad on the inside,” Nico Tortorella as Felix, “an honorable man of his word who isn’t afraid to fight for others’ safety and acceptance,” and Joe Holt as Leo Bennett, “a solid family man and respected professor with a generous heart and unwavering optimism for the future. He’d risk his life to save the people he cares about.”.

Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.
