The ‘Avatar’ sequels have enlisted Brendon Cowell, to play human character Mick Scoresby, “captain of a private sector large-scale marine hunting vessel on the planet of Pandora.” He is expected to begin filming for James Cameron in New Zealand in May.

In the US, Cowell is probably best known for his recurring role as Harrag on Season Seven of ‘Game of Thrones’. In the UK, he most recently starred as Peter Langly on the BBC1 series ‘Press’. He was also seen in the miniseries ‘The Letdown’, as well as the thriller ‘Noise’ and war movie ‘Beneath Fill 60’.
The motion capture performances for ‘Avatar 2’ and ‘3’ is already complete, but the live action portions have not been shot yet. ‘Avatar 2’ is scheduled to be released on December 17, 2021, with the third arriving on December 20, 2024. A fourth film is already set for December 19, 2025, but filming has not yet begun. Like ‘2’ and ‘3’, ‘4’ and ‘5’ are expected to be filmed simultaneously, and production is expected to start once post-production on ‘2’ and ‘3’ is complete. ‘3’ and ‘4’ are dependent on how well ‘2’ and ‘3’ do at the box office. The first ‘Avatar’, released in 2009, remains the highest-grossing movie ever.
The first movie was released by 20th Century Fox, which was recently bought by Disney. While many are wondering how that will impact the existing Fox brands, it doesn’t look as though the ‘Avatar’ sequels will be impacted– at least not the first two.

Returning from the first movie, are stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, and Sigourney Weaver. New additions include Kate Winslet, David Thewlis, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, and Cliff Curtis.
Cameron previously discussed the sequels, saying:
“The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it’s pretty much the same characters. There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I’m taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it’s not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherfucker through all four movies. He is so good, and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park.”
‘Avatar 2’ is expected to hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
