It’s feeding time in the trailer for Scott Cooper’s creepy new horror film ‘Antlers’. In the clip, Jeremy T. Thomas (portraying a character named Lucas Weaver) is shown scavenging for dead animals, and even some that weren’t dead to begin with, in order to feed something that he keeps locked up. But as the trailer shows, whatever that is eventually gets out and the results are pretty gruesome.
‘Antlers’ stars Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons, as adult siblings. Russell plays elementary school teacher Julia Meadows, who takes a special interest in one of her students, Lucas, who appears to be bright but very underprivileged. Plemons plays the sheriff of this small town, Paul Meadows.
In ANTLERS, a small-town Oregon teacher (Keri Russell) and her brother (Jesse Plemons), the local sheriff, discover that a young student (Jeremy T. Thomas) is harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences.
The film also boasts Guillermo del Toro as a producer. Check out the trailer below:
The screenplay for ‘Antlers’ was written by Henry Chaisson and Nick Antosca, based on Antosca’s short story “The Quiet Boy.” If you’re interested, “The Quiet Biy” can be read in its entirety here. The tale is suitably creepy, which comes across in the trailer. Of course “The Quiet Boy” is a short story and is somewhat introspective. It should be interesting to see how Cooper turns this into a full-length movie.
Cooper previously directed the dramas ‘Crazy Heart’, ‘Black Mass’, and ‘Hostiles’. Antosca created the Syfy horror anthology series ‘Channel Zero’ and served as showrunner. ‘Channel Zero’ lasted for four seasons, from 2016-18, and consisted of 24 episodes. More recently, he co-created and served as showrunner of the Hulu true-crime-inspired miniseries ‘The Act’, which earned Patricia Arquette an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
Cooper has stated that ‘Antlers’ is inspired by John Carpenter‘s ‘Halloween’, William Friedkin‘s ‘The Exorcist’, and Andrei Tarkovsky‘s ‘Stalker’. The cast of ‘Antlers’ also includes Rory Cochrane, JT Corbitt, Cody Davis, Graham Greene, Arlo Hajdu, Scott Haze, Sawyer Jones, and Amy Madigan.
