Most of the news from the upcoming ‘Avatar‘ sequels as of late hasn’t caught my attention but learning that Jemaine Clement (‘Eagle vs. Shark’,’Dinner for Schmucks’) will be starring in them just puts a smile on my face. While the actor is likely most recognized for his work on co-creating ‘What We Do in the Shadows‘ and starring in films such as ‘Men in Black 3‘ and ‘The BFG,’ I was first introduced to his work in HBO’s ‘Flight of the Conchords.’
The actor and creator is hilarious, so seeing him in a big budget film always means that we’ll be in for something special.
‘Avatar’ creator and director James Cameron seems to agree as he has shared that:
“I’ve loved Jemaine’s work for years, and I’m really pumped that he’s joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters.”
While we now know that Clement is set to play Ian Garvin int he upcoming films, audiences have no idea who Garvin actually is outside of being a marine biologist who is also a Doctor. It also isn’t clear if this part will allow him to share any of his signature comedic chops or will be a purely serious role.
With this being an ‘Avatar’ film and Clement playing a human, I would suspect that he won’t have much opportunity to share his wit on screen.
Clement will be joining a cast of newcomers which includes Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin, Brendan Cowell, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, David Thewlis, Kate Winslet, and possibly Vin Diesel as well. There is no word yet as to how many of the ‘Avatar’ films any of these actors will end up starring in.
Are you excited to see James Cameron joining the cast of the upcoming ‘Avatar’ movies? Will the actor be able to inject any comedy in his role, or will this be a serious part? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
