The latest in the ‘Child’s Play’ franchise, ‘Curse of Chucky’ is a direct to DVD sequel that has been in development since 2012 and is finally about to be unleashed upon the world. With Don Mancini, the original creator, on board we can hope for something good. I have to say it helps that he is pushing for a darker tone akin to the original film and not the multitude of cheesy sequels that had followed.
When the first ‘Curse of Chucky’ trailer was released, it just didn’t do the movie the justice that this red band trailer is doing. Honestly, horror movies that are a sequel and going direct-to-DVD are always a bit worrisome. When it was first announced that it was going to get this treatment, I had all but given up on any chance of the movie being good. If you are in the same boat, I can’t stress enough to watch this trailer first. It really looks as if it could end up being a sleeper hit for horror fans who have both enjoyed the character and horror movies in general!
Seeing the spirit of Charles Lee Ray return once more to the body of Chucky has me excited and that’s something I never thought I would think again. I won’t lie, after both ‘Bride of Chucky’ and ‘Seed of Chucky’, I really felt that the series would be hard to redeem. From the first trailers it looks as if they may have found a way to do just that. I’m not sure exactly how this is going to tie into the original films quite yet (it does take place 20 years after them) but it looks as if he may have finally found a way to get back into a human body.
Check out the red band trailer after the synopsis below and let us know if ‘Curse of Chucky’ really can redeem this franchise.
