The role of Drax the Destroyer from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has engrained Dave Bautista in our minds as a gentle giant, and now he’s going for something quite a bit more aggressive. The actor has just joined Denis Villeneuve‘s upcoming reboot of ‘Dune‘ and is taking on one of the worst characters from Frank Herbert’s iconic novel. The actor previously worked with director Villeneuve in ‘Blade Runner 2049’ in an aggressive role, but that won’t hold a candle to what he’ll be doing as Glossu “Beast” Rabban.
For those who need a refresher, Rabban is the sadistic nephew of the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and is the elder of the Baron’s two nephews who would be next in line for the title if his intelligence matched his cruelty. As the first novel is set to be turned into two films, we should see Bautista in both of them as Rabban is a significant character throughout the first book.
Bautista is joining a limited cast which also includes Timothee Chamalet in the leading role of Paul Atreides and Rebecca Ferguson who is playing Paul’s mother the Lady Jessica. At this time, no other actors have been cast or at least officially announced.
Are you looking forward to seeing Dave Bautista in a completely different role from what you’ve seen him in so far? Do you think he’ll be able to capture the pure brutality and viciousness of The Best Rabban? Is this reboot going to be the hit we’re hoping it will be and have both films be developed?
