The third season of ‘The Orville,’ Seth McFarlane’s sci-fi comedy/action series that is seeing a move from Fox to Hulu in its upcoming season, had already begun filming in October 2019 when production was shut down earlier this year.  Now, according to a source, things are set to resume next month in an attempt to finish the season’s shooting schedule and keep things moving along for the series. In a recent interview, ‘The Orville’ executive producer Brannon Braga talked about the series and the delays in production: This is a work of deep passion for Seth, and it’s a really great season. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone on the show that isn’t eager to get back to work, as long as it is safe. The shot delay is simply COVID, but it’s also taking longer to film because it’s so much more ambitious even in its scope, […]

Simms told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think the main drive to the second season [began] at the end of the first season. We painted ourselves into a corner with the revelation that Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) was a vampire slayer. When we did that, we were like, “Yeah, we’ll figure out the rest later.” A lot of season two was making sure we followed through with that story. And then it became a really fun story that turned Harvey Guillén into an action hero. It’s always a combination of wanting to do big and exciting visual comedy, things that you wouldn’t ordinarily see on a half-hour, and then balance that with my favorite parts of the show, which is when it’s just the five characters sitting around […]

Courtesy of Deadline: Published by Del Rey in June, Mexican Gothic follows Noemí Taboada, a young socialite who travels to the Mexican countryside and the mountains of Hidalgo in hopes of rescuing her cousin, who has recently married into a reclusive mining family, after receiving a frantic letter in the mail. Noemí seeks to unveil the family’s violent and menacing secrets, but her confidence is quickly threatened and there may be no escaping the walls of her strange, new home. Ripa sang the praises of the novel to her Twitter followers: “Sublime horror for your summer reading. So good I bought the hard copy and the download to read in the dark.” Upon landing the rights to adapt it, Ripa declared: “We feel like we hit the literary jackpot, and cannot wait to bring Silvia’s gorgeous writing to life, together with Hulu.” Author Moreno-Garcia stated: “I am excited to see the novel come to life and to meet the talented, diverse crew and cast members that […]

In a statement, ReedPop president Lance Fensterman said” “We are thoroughly disappointed that we can’t gather together, in-person for the New York Comic Con we love to build and our fans love to revel in.  We look forward to this weekend all year long, just like you, and with this being our 15th edition, we were particularly excited. I will miss walking up and down artist alley and seeing friends that I’ve made since we were in the basement at the Javits Center. While this year will definitely be a different experience, we are going to look to bring the best and most engaging event to our fans, exhibitors, and studios through our partnership with YouTube.” Expected to present panels are Hulu, Starz, FX, DreamWorks Animation, and CBS All Access, including some dedicated to ‘Star Trek’ and ‘American Gods’.  YouTube Live Chat and Community features will be enabled so some fans can get something similar to an in-person con. Very little is known about ‘AHStories’.  It obviously hasn’t begun filming due to the coronavirus, but at least one ‘AHStory’ alum is attached in some capacity.  Sarah Paulson recently divulged that she would be directing for the new show. “What can I say?… I’ll be directing something.” Paulson is the lead on the Murphy-created Netflix series ‘Ratched’ which debuts on September 18. Over the years, she has served as something of a muse to the hitmaker, starting with a smaller role in Season 1, “Murder House,” as the medium Billie Dean Howard, whom she reprised in S5, “Hotel.”  She became a series regular in S2, “Asylum,” as investigative journalist, Lana Winters.  In S3, “Coven,” she portrayed head witch Cordelia Goode Foxx.  That character returned in S8, “Apocalypse.”  In S4, “Freak Show,” she portrayed conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tatler. In addition to Billie Dean Howard, […]

Via Waititi’s Twitter: The entire planet is buzzing about me being nominated for my robotic acting. Guys, there are other nominees outside of the coveted Voice-over Character category. During the ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ SDCC@Home virtual panel, executive producer Paul Simms indicated that Season 3 will have a theme of searching.  While trying not to give too much away, Simms stated that Nandor might be searching for love, while Colin Robinson will explore his past– an origin so secret, not even he knows it. “Nandor might be searching for love. Colin Robinson still doesn’t know how he became an energy vampire–and he’s just rolled with it for all these years, so that might be a search that he goes on.” One of the standout episodes of Season 2, “Colin’s Promotion” saw Colin Robinson experience a massive […]

SDCC: Hulu Conjures The First Trailer For ‘Helstrom’ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/24/sdcc-hulu-conjures-the-first-trailer-for-helstrom/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/24/sdcc-hulu-conjures-the-first-trailer-for-helstrom/#disqus_thread Fri, 24 Jul 2020 22:37:47 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=354447 Are you ready for your first look at ‘Helstrom’?  Hulu has delivered it courtesy of SDCC@Home.  This is the last Marvel-based live-action series before Marvel Studios begins delivering its original Marvel shows through Disney+, which will actually connect to the ultra-popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. To make sure no one makes a mistake that this has anything to do with the films, ‘Helstrom’ isn’t branded as a Marvel project.  It is simply labeled as a “Hulu Original.” Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon star as siblings Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of a notorious serial killer and a mother, Victoria (played by Elizabeth Marvel) who is locked away in an asylum.  Daimon and Ana spend their time investigating paranormal activities, but it seems that perhaps the darkest evil is closer to them than they realize. The cast also includes Robert Wisdom, June Carryl, and Alain Uy. Speaking to Comicbook.com, Marvel described the tone of ‘Helstrom’, saying: “I think it’s, I wouldn’t say it’s too scary or scarier than a lot of the territory explored in, you know, something like Daredevil or a lot of shows and movies that are out there can get dark, but it’s just different.  It’s a different kind […]

Paul Zbyszewski (‘Lost’) acts as showrunner and executive producer.  Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon star as Daimon and Ana, who, in this version of the story, are the children of an infamous serial killer.  Now they dedicate their lives to battling demons and other forces of evil.  Check them and the rest of the cast out below in these new photos complete with episode synopses: Although ‘Helstrom’ is based on characters from Marvel Comics, it does not appear that it will be branded with the Marvel logo, most likely because it isn’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Most other similarly detached shows– the ones on Netflix, Hulu’s ‘Runaways’, Freeform’s ‘Cloak & Dagger’, ABC’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ (yeah, I said it)– have already been canceled to allow Marvel Studios to create its own TV lineup on Disney+ that is actually considered part of the MCU. A ‘Ghost Rider’ show was also in development but was scrapped during pre-production.  If I had to […]

For starters, a revolution is rising, and June, who originally only wanted to be reunited with her husband, Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake), now finds herself in the position to be a figurehead and potential driving force behind the effort to bring down the tyrannical regime of Gilead. According to Moss (via Deadline): “I think a lot of the things that Bruce, the writers’ room and I are dealing with is the concept of what it actually means to be a leader and if you were somebody who was not born for the job.  I think what makes our show sort of different from other shows is that it is a personal drama.  So I think, at the same time, she’s dealing with this feeling that I’m just a Mom, I’m just [a woman], I’m just a wife, I’m a daughter, a sister, a […]

Blessed be the squad.”  She then follows that up by declaring, “We’re just getting started.” The new teaser, which mixes old and new footage, offers at least a taste of what’s to come following Season 3’s harrowing finale.  (SPOILERS: It looks like June lived.)  After she helped a planeload of Gilead’s children escape to Canada, it looks as though she is rescued by her fellow Handmaids, before she has to go on the run.  Bradley Whitford’s Commander Joseph Lawrence continues to play a major role, and is shown declaring that the children freed are June’s “legacy.” You can watch the full teaser trailer below: Discussing the upcoming episodes, showrunner Bruce Miller said: “You don’t want to be setting up season 4 in season 3. Audiences smell that coming.  So what I do is completely screw myself at the end of the season. Then you think, ‘Oh, there’s a whole bunch of smart […]

Vaughan’s bestselling graphic novel series. Murphy first teased ‘American Horror Stories’ in May, and FX officially ordered it to series in early June.  Each episode will be a stand-alone story, akin to ‘The Twilight Zone’.  Murphy’s ‘American Horror Story’, which is going into its 10th season, remains FX’s most-watched program.  Unfortunately, the parent series will not air a new installment this year, as plans were derailed by COVID-19 shutdowns. ‘Y: The Last Man’ (which may wind up being called simply ‘Y’) has been in development for YEARS.  A pilot was filmed in 2018, but since then, the lead role of Yorick Brown has been recast, with Ben Schnetzer replacing Barry Keoghan earlier this year.  (No explanation was given.)  On top of that, last […]

The cast is headed up by Melissa Roxburgh and Josh Dallas, as sister-and-brother Mikaela and Ben Stone, who were both aboard Flight 828.  Mikaela is an NYC police detective, while Ben is a college professor.  Together they work to unravel the mystery around their bizarre circumstance.  The cast also includes Athena Karkanis, J.
