Ablist? What are you on about? They wouldn’t have cast someone with an actual injury, that’s not how casting works. Actors can pretend to have injuries.

A lot of fan outcry isn’t just because of bad casting; its also because Terry Pratchett was very passionate about having his work adaptated… and adaptated accurately. That’s the entire reason he made his own movie studio in the first place. This entire show just feels like it spits in the face of his legacy. Especially since they’re attempting to “diversify” what was already a very colorful cast; Cheery was an allegory for trans, Angua was a werewolf with real actual problems due to her lycanthropy, Sybil is middle aged, fat and still a badass, Carrot is a dwarf but also not a dwarf… its an exceptionally diverse cast and crew that did not need to be changed. There’s also huge, underlying messages of feminism vs the patriarchy due to having a male patrician and a predominately male society that are lost; how can you be feminist against the patriarchy when the Patrician is a woman??? Like, there was 0 reason to make Vetinari a woman; he was a cold calculating dictator and not a good person. He was, likewise, middle aged, scrawny, and walked with a cane due to a prior injury. Its really ablist to take that away and replace him with a woman who has fully functioning mobility and no cane and is just another pretty, attractive face. Its a really insulting rendition of the show that makes me so very sad and depressed because its not what the late Terry Pratchett would have wanted of his work.
