DC Fandome Announces Its Full Schedule With Big Name Guests

DC is getting set to deliver its biggest fan experience ever with DC Fandome, a virtual convention that will cover everything from the comics to television to film and will feature appearances from some major stars from all fields. DC Fandome will be available to all next Saturday, August 22, but only for 24 hours. If you want to best maximaize your streaming time, below, you can find the schedule of events. New York Comic Con Goes Virtual This Year

Not surprisingly, New York Comic Con’s producer ReedPop has announced that it is going virtual for this year’s event. Panels will stream on Youtube on October 8-11. In a statement, ReedPop president Lance Fensterman said” “We are thoroughly disappointed that we can’t gather together, in-person for the New York Comic Con we love to build and our fans love to revel in. We look forward to this weekend all year long, just like you, and with this being our 15th edition, we were particularly excited. I will miss walking up and down artist alley and seeing friends that I’ve made since we were in the basement at the Javits Center. Eva Green Fires Back Over Canceled Sci-Fi Flick ‘A Patriot’

Late last week, it was revealed that Eva Green was being sued by White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd who claimed that Green, who was attached to star in and producer, derailed a planned sci-fi movie, ‘A Patriot’. White Lantern is suing Green for £4 million (∼$5.22 million US). Green is countersuing for £800,000 (∼$1.04 million US), because she states that her contract was “pay or play,” meaning she was guaranteed to be paid whether the film got made or not. She is further stating that the cancellation of ‘A Patriot’ was entirely the decision of White Lantern. Her attorneys released the following statement: This Statement is being made on behalf of Eva Green, for the sake of clarity, in light of recent reports in the media of the legal action she has brought against White Lantern Film (Britannica) Ltd relating to a proposed feature film provisionally entitled “A Patriot”. Ms Green initiated the legal proceedings against White Lantern Film (Britannica) Limited because they are in breach of contract. Eva Green Is Suing And Being Sued Over Her Aborted Sci-Fi Movie ‘A Patriot’

Eva Green is embroiled in a legal battle over the aborted sci-fi film ‘A Patriot’. Green would have starred and served as executive producer. She is suing the production company, White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd… and vice versa! White Lantern is suing Green for £4 million (∼$5.22 million US) for derailing ‘A Patriot’, saying she owes at least $1 million in damages and should compensate them for the loss of revenue that the film would have brought in. She is suing White Lantern for £800,000 (∼$1.04 million US), saying that she had a “pay or play” contract meaning she would get paid whether the film got made or not. She is also asking for the company to pay her legal fees. It appears that White Lantern was taken over by Sherbone Media Finance, and gave “notice of termination of the artist agreement,” stating that Green had breached her agreement, making her ineligible for the pay or play fee, but according to Green, Sherbone failed to explain just what this breach was. White Lantern asserts that Green attempted to inflate the film’s budget by £250,000 ($326,000) to hire additional crew, even though Green offered to take this amount out of her own paycheck. […]

DC Fandome Releases A Trailer To Get You Pumped For The First Ever DC Virtual Con

Fans of DC Comics and its various media had to have been disappointed that none of them were presented at San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual con this year. Instead, the WarnerMedia DC empire is holding its own virtual con, DC Fandome, on August 22. This event will take place for 24 hours. At least from the look of things, DC Fandome will be a more interactive experience (I really don’t need to see another Zoom panel) and “attendees” will be able to explore various virtual areas and get teases from upcoming projects like the movies ‘Aquaman’ (the sequel or the movie that came out two years ago?), ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and HBO Max’s re-edit ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’; and the TV shows ‘Batwoman’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Lucifer’, and ‘Pennyworth’. Theater Chains Sue New Jersey After The State Refuses To Allow Them To Reopen This Month

Yuck. The argument for and against reopening movie theaters just went in a very nasty and litigious direction. New Jersey’s Governor Philip Murphy, and the state health department have refused to allow theaters to reopen in mid-August, despite a carefully laid-out plan on the parts of distributors AMC, Cinemark, Regal, and more, to safely open back up for business in the age of the coronavirus. The plan was put into place to accommodate the opening of Christoper Nolan’s ‘Tenet’, the first major studio pic to arrive since the mass outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The Warner Brothers film is scheduled to open in the US on Thursday, September 3. On behalf of these mega-chains, the National Association of Theatre Owners sued Murphy (personally, it sound like!) for violating their First Amendment rights. The judge rejected the request for a temporary restraining order, stating that the theaters could have filed a legal action sooner and pointed out that other states are backpedaling on reopenings after surges in COVID-19 cases. Tom Cruise’s Movie In Space Reportedly Lands A $200 Million Budget

Remember when Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah’s couch? I guess he gets excited like that a lot. Universal Pictures has ponied up a $200 million budget so that Cruise can make his movie in outer space, after an “exuberant” Zoom meeting between the studio, Cruise, director Doug Liman, and producers Christopher McQuarrie and PJ van Sandwijk. It appears the $200 million is a ballpark figure, as the script isn’t completed yet. It can easily cost $200 million to make a movie in PRETEND space, so who knows what this budget could blast off to? Liman is working on the screenplay and McQuarrie is reportedly serving as a story consultant. Cruise will also act as producer, and Elon Musk, owner of SpaceX, is involved as well. SpaceX recently had the first civilian space launch with the Crew Dragon shuttle, propelled by the Falcon 9 rocket, which successfully delivered astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the International Space Station, and it just so happens that most of Cruise’s movie is expected to film aboard the ISS. ‘Watchmen’: Damon Lindelof And Yahya Abdul-Mateen II React To The Show’s Many Emmy Nominations

HBO’s explosive ‘Watchmen’ was the belle of the ball when the Emmy Award nominations were announced yesterday. The miniseries scored 26 noms, the most of any program this year. Among the honorees was Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who, through most of the series, played the mild-mannered Calvin Abar, before shedding that façade to reveal his true form, that of the god-like Doctor Manhattan. He and the show’s creator, Damon Lindelof, reacted to the show’s success following the Emmy announcement. Lindelof has declared that he is finished with ‘Watchmen’ after his entry. He would prefer that HBO continue the series by bringing in other writers, but so far, the network has not made an announcement of doing so. As he told Variety: “We wanted people to understand that even in the context of this piece of fiction that the show started with something that really happened. HBO may have suffered a huge loss when ‘Game of Thrones’ ended, but for at least one year, when it comes to awards, it has a suitable replacement. ‘Watchmen’ led the pack of this year’s Emmy Awards with a whopping 26 nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series. In that category, it is competing with ‘Little Fires Everywhere’, ‘Mrs. America’, ‘Unbelievable’, and ‘Unorthodox’. Show leads, Jeremy Irons (Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias), and Regina King (Angela Abar/Sister Night) scored nods for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, and Outstanding Lead Actress, respectively. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Calvin Abar/Doctor Manhattan), Jovan Adepo (young William Reeves/Hooded Justice), and Louis Gossett Jr. (old William Reeves) were all nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor, while Jean Smart (Agent Laurie Blake) was recognized in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. ‘Watchmen’ scored the most nominations of any series this year, with Amazon Prime Video’s comedy ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ coming in second with 20. Regal Cinemas Announces Mid-August Reopening In Response To ‘Tenet’s New Release Date

Following Warner Brothers’ announcement of a roll-out plan for ‘Tenet’ in late August/early September, Cineworld has declared that its US branch, Regal Cinemas, will reopen on August 21. ‘Tenet’ will be released in the US on September 3, a Thursday, in advance of Labor Day weekend. Cineworld’s CEO, Mooky Greidinger stated: “Welcoming theatergoers back to our cinemas will be a celebration for not only our team and our industry, but most importantly for the fans who have been anxiously awaiting the year’s upcoming releases. With the health and safety of our staff, customers and communities as our top priority, we are happy to invite audiences to return to the timeless theatrical experience that we have all dearly missed.” Cineworld/Regal Cinemas will enforce “innovative sanitization procedures,” plus social distancing and will require masks for all customers and employees. Regal shuttered all theaters on March 17. It was the first of the major theater chains to close its complexes. It is the second-largest theater chain in the US, next to AMC. San Diego Comic-Con’s @Home Event Was A Flop According To Social Media

It appears that Comic-Con@Home was a bust. Obviously, due to COVID-19, an actual in-person con couldn’t be held, so instead, organizers offered up streaming panels, featuring creators, cast members, and fans of popular comic books, TV shows, video games, and movies, and unlike the usual, these were absolutely free to everyone in the world. However, the social media analytics firm, ListenFirst, reports (via Variety) that buzz surrounding SDCC@Home was not just quieter than normal, it was practically muted. Tweets mentioning SDCC@H were only 5% those of 2019’s Comic-Con! That’s 93,681 tweets versus 1,719,000 last year. Specifically, tweets about the TV show panels were down 93%, and those about movies were down a mindblowing 99%! Ironically, SDCC@H’s most viewed panel was for a movie– ‘The New Mutants’. It has racked up over 208,000 views since its release last Thursday. The ‘New Mutants’ panel offered a Q&A with director Josh Boone and the cast, a first look at the movie’s opening scene, a new trailer, and six posters, copies of which were raffled off to viewers. Following the record ratings of their coverage of the SpaceX Crew Dragon launch in May, Discovery and Science are teaming up again to cover the craft’s return next weekend. The telecast will be called ‘Space Launch Live: Splashdown.” The astronauts plan to land at sea, something that hasn’t been done since 1975. This was the first US crew to voyage to outer space in a privately built craft. The SpaceX Crew Dragon was propelled by the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The destination was the International Space Station. Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley were the astronauts aboard and they will also be the two-man crew of the return journey. Walton Goggins narrated the first two-hour special. This special will be made in partnership with the Washington Post and its staff writer Christian Davenport, one of the country’s leading chroniclers of the space industry. Justice Con: Ray Fisher On Why DC’s Superhero Movies Are The Best

Ray Fisher didn’t spend all of his time during Justice Con trashing Joss Whedon. Fisher has been a vocal advocate for ‘Justice League’s original director Zack Snyder, who previously helmed ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Batman V Superman’. ‘Man of Steel’ did okay, but ‘Batman V Superman’ was loudly decried for being a terrible movie that was too dark (among other flaws). But Fisher thinks this was what the ocean of superhero movies needs. “For me personally, I need something new. I need something that speaks to the way the world is today, not this idealized sort of yesteryear version of who these individuals are. The world is complicated. The heroes need to be just as complicated to help people deal with the circumstances that we’re facing every single day… If an alien with superpowers came down to Earth today do you think people would be like, ‘Yeah, come on let’s go!’?
