Things just keep getting more interesting for the next film installment of everyone’s friendly neighborhood web-slinger. Hot on the heels of the recent news that Jamie Foxx will be reprising his franchise-jumping role of Electro in ‘Spider-Man 3,’ news has broken today that Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Doctor Strange in the film as well – and his appearance could potentially serve as an explanation of sorts for Electro’s presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Foxx’s Electro appeared once on-screen, in 2014’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ This, of course, is not the direct sequel to the upcoming Spider-Man film, but rather the end of Sony’s failed attempt to bring Spidey back to the big screen with Andrew Garfield in the lead role. Sony does still own the rights to Spider-Man and related characters, but they have struck a deal with Marvel to incorporate the hero, now portrayed on-screen by Tom Holland, into the MCU. shutterstock A star who is significantly on the rise, Jonathan Majors has been cast in the forthcoming ‘Ant-Man 3,’ one of the next installments in the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel itself has not confirmed which role Majors will play, but Deadline reports confidently via “sources close to the project” that he will play the iconic villain Kang the Conqueror. Created by legendary Marvel Comics powerhouses Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Kang made his first appearance in 1964 in ‘The Avengers’ comic-book series and has had a long and illustrious career of tormenting pretty much every major Marvel hero and team, including the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Inhumans, and the X-Men. Here’s the character’s brief description from Wikipedia: Kang the Conqueror is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is most frequently depicted as an opponent of the Avengers. Tom Holland’s Next ‘Spider-Man’ Movie Has Been Delayed Again

‘Spider-Man 3’ has been postponed again. It was originally scheduled for release on July 16, 2021, but was delayed until November 5, 2021. It has now been pushed back to December 17, 2021. This only pertains to its opening in the US, so it’s possible that Sony is taking into account that the COVID-19 situation is likely going to get better elsewhere before it does in the United States. Tom Holland is expected to film ‘Uncharted’, also for Sony, before ‘Spider-Man’. ‘Uncharted’ is based on a video game series that spans the globe, and it was set to film in Spain and Germany. The European Union is set to open back up to film and television projects, so production could begin soon. Ruben Fleischer is directing this picture. Holland plays adventurer Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg as his mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, and Tati Gabrielle co-star. ‘Uncharted’ is currently scheduled to open on July 16, 2021. Anthony Mackie Says Marvel Needs More Diversity Behind-The-Cameras

DisneyOne of the biggest hits in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe was 2018’s ‘Black Panther’, which grossed $1.347 billion at the box office, as fans declared, “It’s Not A Movie, It’s A Movement!” And outside of that film, Anthony Mackie has the role of Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon and possibly the next Captain America, while Don Cheadle portrays War-Machine/James Rhodes. But even though Mackie is set to co-headline the Disney+ series ‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’, he thinks Marvel Studios and parent company Disney could do a lot more to increase diversity behind the camera. In a dual interview with ‘Snowpiercer’s Daveed Diggs, Mackie lamented: “When ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ comes out, I’m the lead. When ‘Snowpiercer’ came out, you’re the lead. Sorry, But Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Will Not Be In The Next ‘Spider-Man’ Movie

There had been a few quiet rumblings that Daredevil might pop up in the next live-action ‘Spider-Man’ movie, but if that’s the case, Charlie Cox who played ol’ Hornhead on the Netflix series of the same name, doesn’t know anything about it. Speaking to Comicbook.com, Cox reacted by saying: “I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it. If that’s true, it’s not with me. It’s with another actor.” This should come as no surprise for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige seem content to pretend the Netflix Marvel shows never existed. While they were envisioned as an extension to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they absolutely don’t fit with the family-friendly tone of the movies. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) was quietly taken off the board in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, as he was badly injured after snapping his fingers while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet to restore to life those that had been erased by Thanos’ similar snap in ‘Infinity War’. But Marvel Studios is slipping in new characters to fill the spaces of those that have been essentially retired, and one of those is the She-Hulk, who will be storming her way onto TV screens in a Disney+ original series. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced ‘She-Hulk’ last August along with two other Disney+ shows featuring characters that will be new to live-action, ‘Moon Knight’ and ‘Ms. Marvel’. The details of this huge moment in Marvel movie history came from a recent interview with actor Haaz Sleiman. Last August, it was confirmed by Marvel Studios Kevin Feige that ‘The Eternals’ would feature a gay couple. Scott Derrickson dropped out of directing ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ in early January. In addition to directing the first ‘Doctor Strange’, released in 2016, Derrickson co-wrote the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts. But according to Cargill, he and Derrickson had not written a script for ‘Multiverse of Madness’ prior to Derrickson’s departure. Rachel McAdams will not be back as Doctor Christine Palmer in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, as reported by Variety, who stated simply: “Rachel McAdams, however, will not reprise her role as Strange’s colleague Christine Palmer.” It was just revealed and confirmed that Sam Raimi is in talks to take over the job of directing this sequel to the 2016 Marvel hit, in which McAdams had a fairly small role. Raimi will replace Scott Derrickson, who directed the first movie, but departed the sequel due to creative differences, which include the studio-mandated release date and other factors. Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong will both return as Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong, roles they originated in the first ‘Doctor Strange’ and reprised in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Directors Anna Boden And Ryan Fleck Won’t Be Back For ‘Captain Marvel 2’

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-wrote and directed ‘Captain Marvel’ are not returning to helm the sequel. They aren’t leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe completely, however, as they are in negotiations to possibly direct a Marvel series for Disney+. ‘Captain Marvel 2’ was not announced as part of Marvel’s Phase 4, but after the first movie made over $1 billion, a sequel is guaranteed. Reportedly, Marvel Studios would like a solo female director for ‘CM2’, and the film is being eyed for release in 2022. Recently a rumor emerged that Marvel Studios was considering casting Daniel Radcliffe as mercenary Marc Spectre, the lead character in the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Moon Knight’. But it seems that there is a deeper connecting between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the character that Radcliffe spent his childhood and adolescence bringing to life– Harry Potter. Radcliffe starred in eight blockbuster ‘Harry Potter’ movies from 2001-2011. And as it turns out, these pictures made an impression on the very powerful Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios. Disney+ released a new trailer showcasing many of the new movies and TV shows coming to the service in 2020, and included in the mix is Marvel’s ‘WandaVision’, a series that was previously expected to arrive in spring 2021. But the show has been filming since November, so it looks as though everyone involved thinks the show will be ready sooner than anticipated. Also displayed in the video is ‘The Falcon & The Winter Soldier’, but that was already expected in “late 2020.” Jac Schaefer, one of the writers of ‘Captain Marvel’, serves as producer, writer, and showrunner of ‘WandaVision’. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany return in their roles as Wanda Maximoff and The Vision, respectively.
