I really wanted to love the new Wonder Woman movie. After all, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is a fun and engaging character, particularly in her super-powered Wonder Woman guise. She’s a superhero with heart and compassion, quick to stop the bad guys but just as likely to help a child regain their lost soccer ball or favorite toy. The first film, 2017’s Wonder Woman, was mostly great fun with General Ludendorff (Danny Houston) a suitably epic antagonist that made for a dramatic showdown and goofy but lovable Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as her love interest. It’s no longer World War I, however, it’s 1984 and the tail end of the Cold War. In Wonder Woman 1984 Diana is an anthropologist at the Smithsonian Institute when she’s not donning her trademark outfit and zipping about DC rescuing women from being hit by speeding cars or tossed off bridges. Her new colleague Barbara Ann Minerva (Kristen Wiig) is envious of Diana’s presence, self-confidence and beauty; she’s a bit of a clumsy goof that people tend to ignore. ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ was supposed to have swung into theaters in June, but due to COVID-19, it has been postponed a few times. Right now, it is slated to finally arrive on October 2. But one element that was supposed to have been kept somewhat secret before its release was the metamorphosis undergone by Barbara Minerva, played by Kristen Wiig. The character starts out as a co-worker and friend of Diana’s (Gal Gadot) at the Smithsonian, but over the course of the film, she transforms into the sinister Cheetah. There have been multiple Cheetahs in the comics, with the earlier versions being regular women, but that changed in 1987 with the introduction of Barbara Minerva, a mystical half-woman, half-feline, with real claws and lightning reflexes and enhanced speed. The publicity photos that have been released of Wiig in character have only shown her as a reasonably normal woman, but with the merchandising for the movie arriving (which had been timed for release along with the movie’s original date), fans have gotten a look at how Barbara will ultimately turn out in the movie. Fans of DC Comics and its various media had to have been disappointed that none of them were presented at San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual con this year. Instead, the WarnerMedia DC empire is holding its own virtual con, DC Fandome, on August 22. This event will take place for 24 hours. Though there aren’t any details yet, a virtual table read of George Miller’s aborted ‘Justice League: Mortal’ will be held for charity. Along with ‘Superman Lives’/’Superman: Flyby’, ‘Batman Unchained’, and ‘Super Max’ (starring Green Arrow), this is one of those potentially great DC Comics movies that never got made, although its basic plot has been public knowledge for years now. In 2015, filmmaker Ryan Unicomb announced plans for a documentary that would delve deep into this unmade film, but it failed to materialize. Earlier this year, Unicomb announced that production on the doc would resume, under a new title, ‘Seven Friends: George Miller’s Justice League’. But until then, this table read may suffice if you’ve ever had any questions about this project. Okay, well… I’ve tried to be positive about this, buuuut… DC Universe has ceased offering annual memberships. This can really only mean one thing– DC Universe won’t be around for another year. The writing has been on the wall for a while. DC Universe’s original series are steadily being “shared” with other outlets with ‘Stargirl’ also airing on The CW, soon to be joined by ‘Swamp Thing’, while ‘Doom Patrol’ is also available on HBO Max, with ‘Harley Quinn’ joining it in a couple of weeks. Word arrived weeks ago that ‘Stargirl’ was moving entirely to The CW and would no longer be offered on DC Universe. The CW, DC Universe, and HBO Max are all owned by parent company WarnerMedia, and many have speculated that with the launch of the bigger, more expansive streaming platform, HBO Max, that DC Universe’s days were numbered. They were right. DC Universe, which costs $7.99 a month, was said to be shifting its focus to digital comics and news. Due to COVID-19, this year’s biggest films have all been pushed back multiple times and we’re still unsure when they might actually be released. (Or how.) But movie marketing is a process that begins at least a year before a movie’s release and those schedules are hard to break. Earlier this year, Universal chose to release ‘Trolls World Tour’ as a PVOD because they felt that releasing it too long after, for example, the ‘Trolls’ glittery Oreo cookies had hit store shelves would have killed any enthusiasm for it. On the other hand, Warner Brothers still hopes to release ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ in theaters later, even though the merchandise for the movie is already available. Perhaps the longest fan social media campaign ever has finally paid off, as Warner Brothers will release “The Snyder Cut” of the box office disappointment ‘Justice League’ via HBO Max. Zack Snyder himself made the bombshell announcement following a Vero Watch Party for one of his other WB DC movies, ‘Man of Steel’. Warner Brothers will spend an additional $20-30 million on “The Snyder Cut” for added special effects, score, and editing. It doesn’t appear that any reshoots will be done, even though Snyder reportedly had plans for some additional scenes which were not filmed, for instance, a Martian Manhunter cameo. However, it is believed that some of the cast will be brought back to record some new dialogue. “The Snyder Cut” will be released in 2021 and will allegedly be four hours long (!) or may be broken up into a six-hour miniseries (!!). Well, as the headline reads, the upcoming animated film ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ will be the last set in this DC shared universe. This cycle kicked off with ‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox’ in 2013, which was followed by ‘Justice League: War’, ‘Son of Batman’, ‘Justice League: Throne of Atlantis’, ‘Batman Vs. Robin’, ‘Batman: Bad Blood’, ‘Justice League vs. Teen Titans’, ‘Justice League Dark’, ‘Teen Titans: The Judas Contract’, ‘Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay’, ‘The Death of Superman’, ‘Reign of the Supermen’, ‘Batman: Hush’, and ‘Wonder Woman: Bloodlines’. Of course, there have been multiple DC animated movies released during this time that have not been connected to this shared universe, and Warner Bros. Animation will continue to create and release original DC animated flicks– they will just be free-standing. There is also the possibility that they could establish a new shared universe with a different art style and direction. Lyle Waggoner, Star Of ‘Wonder Woman’ And ‘The Carol Burnett Show,’ Dead At 84

Lyle Waggoner, best known to genre fans as Major Steve Trevor in the 1970s series ‘Wonder Woman,’ has passed away. He was 84. According to his son, Jason, the former actor died Tuesday morning after battling a long illness. Following a stint in the Army and working as a door-to-door salesman in Kansas, Waggoner’s rugged good looks didn’t go unnoticed and he was encouraged to head to Hollywood. While he made his TV debut on an episode of ‘Gunsmoke,’ it was a role that he didn’t get that would surprise comic fans. Waggoner actually auditioned for the role of the Caped Crusader himself, Batman, and he was on the top of the studios’ list of actors even going so far as to film a screen test with Peter Deyell as Dick Grayson/Robin. Of course, it would be Adam West, whose deadpan ability to make even the most absurd believable, who would finally nab the role. Stardom would not elude him for too long as in 1967, Waggoner landed at ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ as an announcer and straight man to Carol Burnett. New Photo Sees Wonder Woman Grapple With 1984 Goons

Gal Gadot is the savior of DC on film. She’s fun and charismatic. That is something noticeably lacking from the previous entries into Detective Comics’ shared universe of movies. Combining her version of Wonder Woman with the time period of 1984 makes the upcoming sequel even more of a must-see. Oh, and that whole swinging from the lightning scene may also have something to do with it. GamesRadar brought us news today that a new image has been released for ‘Wonder Woman 1984’. The photo shows Princess Diana in her iconic armor effortlessly handling a couple of thugs. What did these guys do to deserve having their wrists brutalized? I bet you any money that they were going to buy all the ‘Gremlins’ merchandise and sell it at inflated prices to desperate parents! Or they’re just thugs doing bad things in the mid-1980s.
