Today we had the honor of speaking with Michael Dorn (‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’) about his role in the upcoming sci-fi spectacle ‘Agent Revelation’. Mr. Dorn gave us some insight into the production, casting, and how a successful actor/director relationship works. He also let us in on his upcoming project, a Western that he will write, direct, and star in. Check it out below. Agent Revelation will be available on-demand on January 22nd. Synopsis: Jim Yung, a rejected CIA analyst, has been exposed to an ancient ‘dust’ that transforms him into a super soldier that can communicate with aliens. When a secret organization works with him to discover why aliens have returned to Earth, the truth comes at a price.

There have been so many amazing stories, characters, and series produced from comic book publishers for almost 100 years now; this column will serve to celebrate some of the tales you may or may not know about. Each week, we’ll take a story arc or trade paperback/collected story from a non-new comic (three years old or further back), and discuss the details with you. Ah, the time-honored tradition of the crossover. In the pop-culture world, it’s a way – sometimes, fun and cheeky, sometimes dubious and world-threatening – of bringing together characters, properties, or worlds from two or more franchises to let them interact, collaborate, fight, etc. It’s usually an affair to remember – hopefully for the right reasons, because it was so darned cool, but sometimes it’s for infamous “OMG that didn’t work what the Hell were they thinking” reasons instead. ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Will Return To ‘TOS’ Optimism And Stand-Alone Stories

Viewers of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ were charmed by the Season 2 introductions of Ethan Peck as pre-‘The Original Series’ Spock, Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and immediately began clamoring for them to get their own spin-off show. Finally, in May, CBS All Access announced this would become a reality, entitled ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’. Alex Kurtzman currently oversees the entire ‘Trek’ universe on CBS All Access, and he recently spoke about ‘Strange New Worlds’ during a Deadline Contenders panel: “I think Strange New Worlds, under the guidance of Henry Myers and Akiva Goldsman, it’s going to be a return in a way to TOS [Star Trek: The Original Series]. We are going to do stand-alone episodes. There will be emotional serialization. There will be two-parters. There will be larger plot arcs. But it really is back to the model of alien-of-the-week, planet-of-the-week, challenge-on-the-ship-of-the-week. With these characters pre-Kirk’s Enterprise. Paramount Hits Pause On Noah Hawley’s ‘Star Trek’ Movie In Order To Clarify The Franchise’s Future

Maybe three was enough?! Paramount has hit the brakes on the latest attempt to continue the ‘Star Trek’ movie franchise. In November, Paramount hired Noah Hawley (‘Fargo’, ‘Legion’) to write and direct a fourth installment which would have most likely been set within the Kelvin timeline and featured the same cast– Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, etc. Hawley’s movie has not been completely scrapped. This pause comes five weeks after a new president was installed at Paramount Pictures– Emma Watts, formerly of 20th Century Fox. Reportedly, Watts wants more “clarity” on this project and the future of ‘Trek’ at the cinema, before proceeding any further. Hawley’s project is separate from that buzzed-about Quentin Tarantino ‘Trek’ movie that was never actually going to happen. ANOTHER fourth ‘Star Trek’ movie to be directed by S.J. Clarkson was scrapped in 2018. Reportedly, that screenplay would have involved time travel and brought Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk face-to-face with his deceased father, George Kirk, to be played by Chris Hemsworth. San Diego Comic-Con’s @Home Event Was A Flop According To Social Media

It appears that Comic-Con@Home was a bust. Obviously, due to COVID-19, an actual in-person con couldn’t be held, so instead, organizers offered up streaming panels, featuring creators, cast members, and fans of popular comic books, TV shows, video games, and movies, and unlike the usual, these were absolutely free to everyone in the world. However, the social media analytics firm, ListenFirst, reports (via Variety) that buzz surrounding SDCC@Home was not just quieter than normal, it was practically muted. Tweets mentioning SDCC@H were only 5% those of 2019’s Comic-Con! That’s 93,681 tweets versus 1,719,000 last year. Specifically, tweets about the TV show panels were down 93%, and those about movies were down a mindblowing 99%! Ironically, SDCC@H’s most viewed panel was for a movie– ‘The New Mutants’. It has racked up over 208,000 views since its release last Thursday. The ‘New Mutants’ panel offered a Q&A with director Josh Boone and the cast, a first look at the movie’s opening scene, a new trailer, and six posters, copies of which were raffled off to viewers. ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Will Beam Back For Season 3 In October

Even though SDCC was this past weekend, CBS All Access has a bit of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ news that they saved for today. The show will return for its 13-episode third season on Thursday, October 15. CBS All Access announced the release date with a short video clip of Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) planting a tattered Federation flag on a desolate alien landscape. You can watch it below: In addition to Martin-Green, the Season 3 cast consists of Doug Jones (Commander Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Commander Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Ensign Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker) and Michelle Yeoh (Philippa Georgiou). At the end of Season 2, the Discovery and its crew time travelled to an uncertain future, where they must now fight to restore hope to the Federation. SDCC: Watch The First Scene From ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’

Among the goodies that have already arrived thanks to Comic-Con@Home is this opening scene from the first episode of CBS All Access’ ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’. ‘Lower Decks’ was created by Emmy Award-winner Mike McMahan, known for his work on ‘Rick & Morty’ and ‘Solar Opposites’. Those credits should give an idea of what type of humor to expect from this series. The Lower Decks crew includes Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), Ensign Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), and Ensign Tendi (Noël Wells). Their more glamorous and glorious Bridge counterparts include Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis), Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell), Lieutenant Shaxs (Fred Tatasciore), and Doctor T’Ana (Gillian Vigman). Mariner and Boimler are featured in this preview clip. Mariner catches Boimler recording a wannabe Captain’s log, but he discovers that she is breaking all sorts of rules, getting drunk on Romulan whiskey and then brandishing a razor-sharp Klingon blade! Nickelodeon’s ‘Star Trek’ CGI Series Has A Name And Logo

Ahead of the ‘Star Trek Universe’ Comic-Con@home event, one bit of news has been released in advance– the name of Nickelodeon‘s upcoming CGI animated ‘Trek’ series is ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ and you can see the logo above. This project was announced last April, and will attempt to bring ‘Trek’ to a new younger generation. At the time of this announcement, Alex Kurtzman said: “Star Trek’s mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future. Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing ‘Trek’ to a younger generation around the world.” The new series depicts a group of rebellious teenagers who “commandeer an old Starfleet ship and head off into the universe for adventure and more.” Emmy winners Kevin and Dan Hageman developed the series. ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Adds Paul Scheer In A Recurring Role

Fanny man Paul Scheer’s voice will be heard in a recurring role on CBS All Access’ ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’, which will debut on August 6, but with San Diego Comic-Con@Home taking place this weekend, expect more news on this irreverent animated series. Scheer will voice Lt. Commander Andy Billups, the direct boss of Ensign Rutherford (Eugene Cordero). ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ was created by Emmy Award-winner Mike McMahan (‘Rick & Morty’, ‘Solar Opposites’). The first season will consist of 10 30-minute episodes, which follow the exploits of the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos, one of the least important ships in Starfleet. And while the Bridge Crew factors into the show, the main focus is on the “essential workers” toiling in the ‘Lower Decks’, doing the jobs no one else wants to do. Indie Rights has picked up ‘Unbelievable!!!!!’, a sci-fi parody film, produced by Snoop Dogg and featuring over 40 former ‘Star Trek’ cast members, and a puppet. The film will be screened for potential foreign distributors as part of the first virtual Cannes Film Festival. ‘Unbelievable!!!!!’ is “a Sci-Fi Parody Adventure which follows the crazy exploits of four off-beat astronauts (one is a marionette) who travel to the Moon on a rescue mission to determine the fate of two Space Agency comrades who have not been heard from in several days. The individuals they find at the Lunar Base are not whom they appear to be and nearly succeed in killing our heroes. Due to the COVID-19 shutdowns, one of the biggest pop culture events of the year, San Diego Comic-Con International, will not be held, but organizers have managed to pull together some of the biggest names in entertainment to provide a virtual Comic-Con that millions will be able to view from the safety and comfort of their homes. Just because the Con wraps up on Sunday doesn’t mean that the day isn’t packed full of panels to appeal to fans of all stripes. There is a celebration of the original ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movies. There will also be a virtual gathering of various ‘Power Rangers’ from throughout the years. Due to the COVID-19 shutdowns, one of the biggest pop culture events of the year, San Diego Comic-Con International, will not be held, but organizers have managed to pull together some of the biggest names in entertainment to provide a virtual Comic-Con that millions will be able to view from the safety and comfort of their homes. Below are the panels for Saturday and once again, there seems to be something for every sort of fan, whether your thing is technology, gaming, manga and anime, animation, collecting or just about anything else that’s good and nerdy. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ returns for a victory lap, in celebration of its final season. Due to the COVID-19 shutdowns, one of the biggest pop culture events of the year, San Diego Comic-Con International, will not be held, but organizers have managed to pull together some of the biggest names in entertainment to provide a virtual Comic-Con that millions will be able to view from the safety and comfort of their homes. Festivities will kick off on Wednesday, July 22. To view the schedule for that day, click here. The event continues on Thursday, July 23, with a packed full day’s worth of programming! Next week is San Diego Comic-Con, and even though the expo has been switched to an online experience, Paramount and CBS All Access are still planning a lavish– albeit live from everyone’s home– presentation for the ‘Star Trek Universe’. But prior to that, a major release has arrived, perhaps to help set the stage for the panel. Here is the first trailer for ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’! This animated sitcom hails from the mind of Emmy Award-winner Mike McMahan (‘Rick & Morty’, ‘Solar Opposites’).
