Welcome to the Comic Archive! There have been so many amazing stories, characters, and series produced from comic book publishers for almost 100 years now; this column will serve to celebrate some of the tales you may or may not know about. Each week, we’ll take a story arc or trade paperback/collected story from a non-new comic (three years old or further back), and discuss the details with you. Ah, the time-honored tradition of the crossover. In the pop-culture world, it’s a way – sometimes, fun and cheeky, sometimes dubious and world-threatening – of bringing together characters, properties, or worlds from two or more franchises to let them interact, collaborate, fight, etc. It’s usually an affair to remember – hopefully for the right reasons, because it was so darned cool, but sometimes it’s for infamous “OMG that didn’t work what the Hell were they thinking” reasons instead. ‘Wynonna Earp’: That Blizzard In The Garden Of Eden Was Real And Came Out Of Nowehere

For the opening of ‘Wynonna Earp’ Season 3, the creators chose to interpret the famous Garden of Eden in a completely different way. Instead of a lush, tropical locale, the show depicted a frozen wasteland. As star Melanie Scrofano stated: “It was literally called Blizzard Lake — a body of water that had frozen. So every time I ran on it, I was, like, listening for cracks, you know? I was so scared!” Yes, that was a real location shoot, not a CGI background created using a green screen. And one of the biggest perils that comes with outdoor filming is the weather. It seems if a production needs a sunny day, a monsoon rolls in, or vice versa. ‘Wynonna Earp’ ran into an unexpected blizzard while filming this sequence, but that actually made the scene better, resulting in the cast and crew forcing themselves to endure the harsh winter storm to reshoot an earlier scene so they fit together. “Oh, my God, the timing was incredible. Season 3 of ‘Wynonna Earp’ was packed with game-changing shocks, but one of the biggest was the transformation of Doc Holliday into a vampire! It seems Doc was terrified of dying and allowed his ex-wife, Kate to turn him into an immortal blood-sucker, much to the dismay of Wynonna. As the S3 finale set up, at the beginning of S4, Doc and Waverly will be off… somewhere on their own, having been teleported away. After an unexpected delay, ‘Wynonna Earp’ is returning to Syfy for its fourth season this weekend. But one “castmember” won’t be returning to Purgatory– Wynonna’s mystical firearm, Peacemaker. The revolver, which originally belonged to Wynonna’s great-great-grandfather, Wyatt, was destroyed at the end of Season 3 lifting the curse on the Earp family. But how will Earp defend Purgatory from the paranormal without Peacemaker? The show’s star, Melanie Scrofano, thinks this is a positive development for her character. “Vacation Is Over A**Holes!” The First Trailer For ‘Wynonna Earp’ S4 Reveals The Return Date

After a long delay due to financial issues, ‘Wynonna Earp’ Season 4 is finally almost ready to arrive. Syfy has released a new trailer, which announces that S4 will arrive on Sunday, July 26. In addition to giving Earpers a glimpse of what’s in store on the series, the trailer also delivers a heaping of love to the outpouring of support they gave the series when studio IDW Entertainment (which also publishes the ‘Wynonna Earp’ comic book) hit a financial snag which delayed the production of the latest installment by several months. The new season’s tagline is “Fight Like An Earper!” Check it out below. (Warning, due to language, it is NSFW.) After seemingly breaking her family’s curse in S3, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) must continue the fight to save the town of Purgatory and all her loved ones without her faithful firearm, Peacemaker. Unlocking The Future: Netflix Renews ‘Locke & Key’ For A Second Season

Netflix believes there are still more doors left to be unlocked, as it has renewed ‘Locke & Key’ for a second season. The first season premiered on the streaming service in February and consisted of 10 episodes. It also ended on a doozy of a cliffhanger, so fans can rest assured that those mysterious plotlines will get some sort of resolution. In a joint statement, executive producers and co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill announced: “We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke and Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators. We are grateful to Netflix for all their support, especially at this difficult time, and look forward to bringing you the exciting next chapter of our story.” Netflix’s VP of original series, Brian Wright added: “Based on the incredible graphic novel from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke and Key captivated audiences around the world at every twist and turn. Netflix Axes ‘V Wars’ And ‘October Faction’ After Just One Season

Netflix has canceled two of its recent genre series, ‘V Wars’ and ‘October Faction’, after just one season each. Both shows were based on comic book series published by IDW. A third Netflix original series, ‘Locke & Key’ is also based on an IDW book, and was just renewed for a second season. ‘V Wars’ was based on the comic by Jonathan Maberry. William Laurin and Glenn Davis served as showrunners, while Brad Turner acted as executive producer and directed four of the ten episodes. ‘The Vampire Diaries’ alum Ian Somerhalder starred as Dr. Luther Swann, a scientist battling a bizarre plague that turns its victims into vampire-like beings. Among those afflicted is his best friend, Michael Fayne, played by Adrian Holmes. The first season dropped on December 9 of last year. Somerhalder is reportedly working with Netflix to develop future projects, so the fan-favorite won’t be gone for long. ‘October Faction’ was based on the comic by Steve Niles and Damien Worm and was developed for television by Damian Kindler, who acted as showrunner and executive producer. Disney Launches ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’

While the ‘Star Wars’ films kind of petered out and ‘The Mandalorian‘ soared on Disney+, there doesn’t seem to be much new live-action material set in the Galaxy Far, Far Away anytime soon, as Disney CEO Bob Iger has stated that for the foreseeable future, the conglomerate was focusing on bringing more ‘Star Wars’ properties to the small screen. But both upcoming shows, ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi‘ and ‘Cassian Andor‘ have been delayed for additional pre-production and fine-tuning. Perhaps it’s time to get old school… REALLY old school. Disney has announced ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’, an ambitious publishing initiative that will include both traditional books (for adults and younger readers) and comics (from both Marvel and IDW), set 200 years prior to ‘The Phantom Menace’. The series will depict the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order at the height of their power and influence. How Does Netflix’s ‘Locke & Key’ Compare To FOX And Hulu’s Attempts?

It’s been a long and bumpy road bringing Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s IDW comic series ‘Locke & Key’ to the small screen, but at long last, it’s here on Netflix. Previously, a ‘Locke & Key’ series was developed for FOX, set to air during the 2010-11 season, but it was not picked up, despite the pilot being screened at SDCC. The rights then rolled over to Universal Pictures, which planned to turn the comic into a trilogy of theatrical movies. In 2017, Hulu ordered a pilot, but once it was delivered, the streaming service passed. Netflix ordered it to series in 2018, but wanted a whole new pilot, with a brand new cast. Jackson Robert Scott, who played the youngest child, Bode Locke was the only actor kept from the Hulu pilot. What else is different about the series now that it’s on Hulu? Mark Millar Has Begun Work On The Third Part Of ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’– ‘Jupiter’s Requiem’

Hopefully, this will ensure that Netflix’s ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ doesn’t run into the same problems that HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ did. As everyone knows, ‘Game of Thrones’ was based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novels, which remain unfinished, even though the TV series just wrapped after eight seasons. Now Netflix is turning the comic book series ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’, written by Mark Millar into a series. Filming of Season 1 kicked off in July of 2019 and recently wrapped. Now Millar has shared that he has begun work on the third ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ comic series, ‘Jupiter’s Requiem’. Millar reports that this new installment will consist of ten episodes. Netflix Reveals A First Look At Keyhouse From The Upcoming Thriller ‘Locke & Key’

Netflix has revealed a first look at ‘Locke & Key’, the upcoming supernatural drama based on Joe Hill’s IDW comic book series. Unfortunately, it isn’t a cast photo, but rather a look at the show’s main setting, Keyhouse. After the murder of her husband, Rendell Locke, his widow, Nina and their three kids, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode move into his family’s ancestral home, a.k.a. Keyhouse. There, the kids discover a series of magical keys that unlock special abilities. Unfortunately, a demonic force is also after the keys. As Netflix notes, this series has been in development for many years, with a number of different outlets interested in bringing it to life, but it just never happened until now. Thanks to a new ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ trading card, the name of Dominic Monaghan‘s character has been revealed as Beaumont Kin. In the comic book story, Beaumont is revealed to be a historian of the Wookie homeworld Kashyyyk, and he could speak and understand the Wookie language of Shyriiwook. In the course of that story, he became acquainted with Chewbacca. This may play into his appearance in the movie, as Monaghan mentioned hugging Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) on the set.
