Just in time to give you your fix we are back with an all-new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! We’re two weeks into the new year and things are starting to heat up in the toy world! Toy Fair is just one month and one day away from the date of this publication, so there will be a massive amount of news hitting in the coming weeks for sure! In the meantime, this week we have lots of awesome new stuff from top franchises like ‘ALIEN’, ‘Ghostbusters’, ‘Star Wars’ and so many more! There’s a little something for everyone in the toy news for the week of January 16th, 2018!

In ToysRUs Aisles, Everyone Can Hear You Scream

This week our good friends at Diamond Select Toys have announced an all new wave of ‘ALIEN’ themed Minimates that will be available exclusively at ToysRUs stores later this year! The new wave is a blend of characters from some of the… we’ll say “less popular” portions of the ‘ALIEN’ franchise, but for diehard fans (like this writer in particular) these are all highly demanded and exciting characters to see coming our way in Minimate form!

The new wave will consist of four Minimate figure 2-packs, including ‘Fury 161’ Ripley with Dillon from ‘ALIEN 3’, Ron Johner with Advanced Xenomorph and Annalee Cell with Resurrection Xenomorph from ‘ALIEN Resurrection’, and even Amanda Ripley with Isolation Xenomorph from the ‘ALIEN Isolation’ video game! These are all expected to hit ToysRUs stores this Spring!

Who You Gonna Call?

If you can’t wait until Spring for awesome new Diamond Select Toys products, then you’re in luck! DST has a whole new wave of their Ghostbusters Select 7″ scale figures hitting ToysRUs Stores this week! This is the 6th wave of figures in the Ghostbusters Select line, and the first wave based on ‘Ghostbusters II’! The new wave includes Ray Stantz in his grey jumpsuit, Louis Tully in his tan jumpsuit (which, if you remember, actually belonged to Egon Spengler), and Vigo the Carpathian!

It’s worth noting that the ToysRUs versions of these figures are released at a slightly lower pricepoint than the usual ‘Select’ figures, but do not include any of the Firehouse diorama pieces that the non-ToysRUs versions will include that allow you to build your very own Firehouse front for your display (meaning if you planned on building the Firehouse, it may be worth waiting for the standard release to hit comic and specialty shops in a few weeks). A Diamond Select Release! It’s the 15th-anniversary of the Select action figure format, and DST is continuing one of its most successful Select lines to date! With the 15-figure Rooftop diorama completed, DST is starting a new diorama-building series of Ghostbusters movie action figures, based on 1989’s Ghostbusters 2! Series 5 will include Ray Stantz in his gray jumpsuit and gear, Louis Tully in his tan jumpsuit and gear, and Vigo the Carpathian. Plus, each figure includes pieces from a new diorama so fans can start to build the sign and doors from the Ghostbusters’ fire house headquarters! Fire house parts will be included with the 15 figures total in Series 6-10, and these diorama pieces are exclusive to the specialty market. Entertainment Earth Unveils New ‘Star Wars’ Exclusives

It seems like people will never truly be able to get their hands on enough ‘Star Wars’ merchandise, which is great news because this week our friends over at Entertainment Earth have revealed three new exclusive 3.75″ scale ‘Star Wars’ figures that are available now! The new figures include a Flame Trooper, C’ai Threnalli, and a two-pack of Finn and Captain Phasma! Check the full releases from Entertainment Earth below!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Flame Trooper 3 3/4-Inch Figure

Gaming Heads Is ‘Doom’ed

‘Doom’ fans rejoice! The classic gaming franchise made its triumphant return to consoles in 2016 with the aptly titled ‘DOOM (2016)’ and restored our love for one of the oldest first person shooter franchises in existence! Now, thanks to the team over at Gaming Heads, we’re getting a chance to bring a little bit of nostalgia home with us!

Throughout the most recent ‘DOOM’ game, there were bonus items called ‘Doomguys’ littered around and hidden in each level. Each ‘Doomguy’ was what looked to be a different colored action figure of the games heroic Doom Marine, and with each one you discovered more bonus content for the game would be unlocked! There were a total of 26 ‘Doomguys’ to find in the game, each with their own unique color scheme, and now Gaming Heads is going to bring them home to your collection!

The team at Gaming Heads recently shared a preview image of some ‘Doomguy’ collectible figures that look like they’re replicas of the actual figures seen in the game! The scale is not known at this time, so we don’t know if these will be life-sized or mini-figures. Figures previewed so far include the classics Green Praetor Armor, the Pink and Gray version, and the Red, White, and Blue version! Unfortunately that’s all we know for now, so hopefully Gaming Heads will issue more information soon as to what other varieties may be available, and when we can expect to actually see these fantastic looking figures hit the market!

“Boba Fett? BOBA FETT?!”

There are very few characters in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise quite as prolific as the mysterious bounty hunter Boba Fett. Perhaps that is why the team at Hot Toys is giving us not one, but two new versions of this iconic character in beautiful 1:6th scale! The newest Hot Toys Boba Fett is based on his appearance in ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’, with both a standard and a deluxe version available. As with all Hot Toys 1:6th scale figures, Boba Fett is fully articulated and loaded to the teeth with a number of accessories like a removable jetpack, a carbine rifle, pistol, a number of interchangeable hands, and a figure stand! The Deluxe version includes all of the aforementioned accessories, plus a number of additional pieces including alternative versions of his armor, jetpack, wrist gauntlets, and helmet to match his original pre=production look! Live And Let Drive

We’ve known for a few weeks now that the legendary ‘James Bond 007’ film series was getting a line of POP! Vinyls from Funko, but this week Funko made a reveal that is sure to leave fans of the long running franchise quite pleased! It would appear that Bond’s iconic Aston Martin car will be joining the POP! Rides line along with a Sean Connery styled James Bond POP! to drive it! The Aston Martin is expected to his stores this March!

Toy Fair Teasers

While there isn’t a while lot of info on any of these, the team over at PopVinyls appears to have gotten their hands on an advance copy of Funko’s annual Toy Fair preview catalog! They’ve uploaded a number of images to show off some of the amazing products we can expect to see in the next year from lines based on fan favorites franchises like ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Rick and Morty’, ‘Halo’, and so many more!
