Charlize Theron seems to be the “it” girl for sci-fi films right now. She’s in both Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ as well as the fairy-tale reimagining ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’. Now she’s gearing up for director George Miller’s ‘Mad Max’ reboot titled ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.
‘Fury Road’ has had a tumultuous trip to the screen. It was set to film in 2009 but a flood in Australia caused production to be delayed until the area dried out. After a few false starts since then, in an interview with MTV Theron now says that things are back on track and filming will begin this coming June 2nd.
The original ‘Mad Max’ movies starred Mel Gibson in the lead role and helped to launch his film career. The stars of the reboot need no such jump start. Tom Hardy (‘The Dark Knight Rises’) will be playing the lead role of Max Rockatansky and Theron will be playing a new character named Furiosa.
And according to /Film, George Miller says that he already has three Mad Max scripts in hand so hopefully this will be the start of a new post-apocalyptic trilogy.
‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ also stars Nicholas Hoult (‘X-Men: First Class’) and model Abbey Lee Kershaw. No release date is set.
